Conclusion :
Strongly Recommended place. The BBQ fish is fantastic. The BBQ Stingray is out-of-this-world and sells out way too fast. *SUPER popular* dinner spot to locals due to price value. Their Soto Ayam is very very good value. Short operating hours.
Met up with a local friend and his gf. He's the want-cheap-want-ripe-want-2-big-titties type. LOL. He lives-to-eat, and yet, eat-to-live at the same time. Won't go places like Kez, western-food, etc. He, being a fish-lover, we 4 decided to go one of his favorite spots for dinner.
Reached there at 1830hrs. It is residential area in Sungai Panas (need car for sure). The stingrays were all gone or/and reserved by several customers and it's just 1830hrs(!) Boss says must either call to reserve those stingrays, or come earlier than that (LOL!).
So we ordered and 3 dishes must be mentioned :
BBQ fish RP35K (MANTAP!) : The banana-leaf actually does 2 things - add light fragrance to the fish, and, more importantly, prevents the fish from being charred by the charcoal grilling. Was told that this place is the only one that uses banana-leaf. Fish is fresh (Boss goes to the market daily and only selects fresh ones - if there is no fresh fish - he won't buy and means the stall won't open (has happened several times before).
Soto Ayam RP23K (MANTAP!) : One sentence to describe this - abundance of ingredients, more than any other soto-ayam in batam. That friend confirms that. This alone is a meal. Kid you not. The soup can be too lemongrass sour for some like me, or not as spicy to others - so add green chili puree and/or sweet black kachap - hits the spot. Wonderful!! Super-value.
Asam Stingray RP22K (MANTAP!) : For those who love asam, this is a must-try !
Total ordered and devoured :
3 x BBQ Fish, 2 x Soto Ayam, 1 x Asam Stingray, 1 x Beansprouts, 1 x asam-pedas ikan bilis, 4 plates of rice, 3 teh-o + 1 Aqua.
RP189K !!
BBQ-Stingray (*DISTINCTION*) : After dinner, we chat. Customers kept coming and was observing one of them who had booked the last 2 pieces of stingray (earlier by phone). LOL I kept looking at him and the stingray being grilled. The friggin stingrays were big and chunky - bigger and fleshier than our fish ZOMG! The boss saw that and said to the customer, when he delivered the dish to him, that I wanted to try the BBQ stingray. That customer obliged and gave me/us one side of a stingray !
I put in my mouth .... AIYOOOOOOOOOOO it was heaven in a spoon .... I can't describe it... (my eyes opened big big and that made people (friends, and that customer) laugh). Combination of 3 custom-BBQ sauces used during grilling + banana-leaf + Boss' skill + the Stingray meat texture....... AIYOOOOOOOOO.... NO friggin wonder his stingrays gone. Must Must MUST TRY
My live-to-eat-and-eat-to-live stingy friend looked at me, nodded and smiled cheekily (meaning : SHIOK ya !? this place ... hehehe!! no worries , more to come, bring you to places also "hahahaha")
It was 1950hrs and true enough - the stall's beginning to close as the fish were gone. Still customers came - and so they ordered grilled chicken and whatever else they could. I almost felt sincere-pity for them LOL!
There was just no name to the stall. I die die wanted to come back to this place. My partner knows the place but I just had to share with the samsters. Photos in next post (post limitation).
ENJOY !!!!
