You are lucky you were just brought to a KTV and lost some $$$, when venture into unknown territory always be extra careful, do not be so naive, and follow stranger to their recommended place, and always avoid street pimps at all cost.
In China, you can just go to those normal sauna, or massage place in China, these are plentiful, but check the price first before entry though.
I do go alone, it is relatively safe.
