I beg to differ your recommendation. As I am keen to photo birds, I use a Canon 75-300mm f4-5.6 telephoto zoom lens. It is a good choice to pick up distant objects and you also use it for portrait shots. Of course, you need to get a Camera body. There are also other choices like Nikon and Sony. You could pick up a third party lens such as Sigma 100-600mm f5-6.3. A budget of about S$1.5to 2k for the body and lens.
