Survey finds that Singaporeans are more dissatisfied with their quality of life and level of democracy

In a survey that was conducted by the National University of Singapore (NUS) and released last Thursday (31 May), Singaporeans felt that they have a decreased sense of achievement, less democratic rights and are less satisfied with their overall quality of life when compared to previous years.

Interviewing 1,503 Singaporeans aged 15 and above, two NUS Associate Professors - Siok Kuan Tambyah and Tan Soo Jiuan – found that there was marked unhappiness over the current wage levels and the cost of living.

Out of 25 aspects about living in Singapore, those surveyed were most unhappy with the affordability of cars, while the affordability of properties, cost of living, ratio of locals to foreigners, and affordability of healthcare ranked as the other key areas of concern.

Separately, respondents were least satisfied with their household income, jobs and the standard of living.

“Increasingly (over the years), they are upset about the affordability of cars and properties, so you can surmise from there that they are concerned with the issue,” said A/P Tan.

Singaporeans felt that they cannot criticize the government and have limited free speech

Singaporeans were also unhappy over their democratic rights.

The thing about why all these surveys and the polling results differ so much is honestly quite simple. Why does the government continue to provide good incentives to foreigners whereas treat their own local citizens like shit and yet still win at all the elections? It's simple. Think about it if you're a foreigner. If the gahment give you goodie, would you vote them in or out. As such, LHL keep aiming to bring in more influx of foreigners basically because of that. Combine that number with the number of civil servants such as government personnel who fear that if they vote for the opposition, may affect their career path. There you have it. That's why PAP will always win no matter what. It's simply meritocracy only in name at this point

It actually isn't funny. Because the reality is Singapore's opposition parties are too fragmented to be effective. And besides WP I doubt there is actually any talent in the other parties that can be on par with PAP at all.

What to do? Even Low Thia Kiang also didn't dare to position WP as a potential government in waiting. He's only content with second place as Co driver. With this sort of mentality do you expect Singaporeans to trust in you and believe you're up to task? Very easy to criticise on the sidelines, but not easy to actually govern and manage stuff themselves!

My 2 cents solutions
1. Ministry of labor should have sg cv match companies vacancies...priority for locals...look at google and facebook for data mining ...can even impact presidential election..
Talk about the data age!
2. There is no solution except with heart. Staff from Ministry of welfare should seek them out and provide a comfort lodging. Enforce law to bring offspring to take care of them..
3. Don't prison provide learning and skill training? Cleaners..Technicians...again ministries can coordinate to help...welfare, home affair, workforce...
