If possible u can go to batam n change. But do not change at the custom. If u go others money changer u may get a better rate

My scope is very limited I know, but in the small area including Nagoya Hill, Lucky Plaza, Jl. Imam Bonjol I inquired about a dozen of exchange offices, a couple of months ago when I had 1000USD to change.
Best rates were offered by a couple of exchange offices on Jl. Imam Bonjol, 1-2 blocks at left looking at Nagoya Hill.
Rates varied from 9200 to 9750, so the difference was really high!
I guess that offices offering best rates to change USD->IDR would also be the best ones to change SGD->IDR.

For USD notes, if your notes are crumbed, or folded, even by the tips, they would not want to exchange. rates for 100 dollar notes are highest, while smaller notes command smaller rates.

Use Singapore dollars best, in Batam.

Yes I know all that.
My survey was exhaustive in the area (all places around those few blocks inquired) and of course for equal conditions: brand new 100 USD notes.
Change rates varying from 9200 to 9750 for same 100USD notes are a LARGE difference! It's something like 6%!!
In conclusion, investing time in surveying the market may allow to save lots of money.
It was not my strategy to go to Batam with USD. I had those 1000 USD as cash payment in another country and I kept them, instead of changing them to my home currency and deposit them to my bank account, to avoid losing on double change fees.

PS: Today change rates for USD are significantly higher. I see on XE that we are above 10,400!!

Time ago, we talked about night spots closed on mid days of Ramadhan.
I heard from Batam that night spots should be closed on mid 3 days. Fellow ndnd wrote instead at that time:
"Closed on the first 3 days, on the 15th day and the last 3 days."

My hotel kindly informed me that Ramadhan starting was delayed to 10 July this year, which results in mid month closure of nightlife outlets on 26-27-28 July!

I am supposed to go to Batam right on those days I could not be more unlucky.
Any kind soul there knows if they will really close everything for 3 days on the WEEKEND? Friday, Saturday, Sunday??
Or just one day (the 15th)? But the 15th day should'nt be on 25 July?
Any information from someone expert will be greatly appreciated..

I am interested in particular to Newton and Pacific discos. I cannot imagine them closed for THREE DAYS on the WEEKEND...
