This section seems to be full of people making extremely irrational and ill judged decisions.

That's because they're allowing the primitive part of the brain to take control of their actions without first engaging the logical component of their grey matter.

The logical part of the brain is the frontal lobe of cerebral cortex. This is where reasoning, critical thinking, problem solving and planning activity takes place. More info at

Lower life forms are controlled almost entirely by the limbic system. It's called animal instinct. It helps them to hunt for prey, avoid fire and predators and governs the whole mating process.

Humans, on the other hand, have highly developed frontal lobes which enables the species to solve problems, invent new processes and make informed decisions rather than just following instinct.

However, in some humans, the limbic system overwhelms the frontal lobes and this is when they end up wanting to marry whores or emigrate to some 3rd world country for the sake of some pussy.

Which category do you want to belong to? Do you want to behave like an animal or do you pride yourself in being able to think logically and rationally when it comes to making important choices in your life?

since life is so tough, sometimes one succumbs to the primal urges so that one can feel like its worth living...

Bro GK, I think Ms A-L is referring to how do you know that the decision that you are about to make is a good or bad choice, not the end result which is rather pointless caused it happened already..

Interesting topic by the boss here as he must have seen more and more of the such issues from the overall picture of this forum that leads to his explosion of comments as above..

To me, you can go about by scientific ways or just humane ways to categorize yourself as to how do you control oneself, but the notion of human controlled primarily by limbic system and frontal lobe though valid, I reckon is not like an "on/off" affair state.

You see, I believe that percentages comes into play. You will have someone when doing work he'll use more like 80% of his frontal lobe and 20% of instinct to make his judgement calls, while out there partying he'll probably uses 40% frontal lobe and 60% of instinct to chat with ladies instead.

So the usual wordings of "logic flies out of the window when I sees her" really does do apply sporadically in our lives. Heck, that's what makes our world goes round as that way you'll have lots of different personalities and interesting characters everywhere you go..

That said, the purpose of this forum or rather this particular sector of the forum aka "Matters of the Heart" is for people with poor judgement calls, in particularly relationship handling, whom might be lost or unsure of what to do to post threads to seek guidance, counsel or even confessions, hopefully to get bros/sis here some kind of valuable feedback and of course to get reassurances that they are not alone..

Hey, for all you know, some may be out right poor and pathetic when comes to dealing with relationship but is a master when in office making business decisions.. Go figure..

I have finished reading the chapter and it is very interesting and knowledgeable. Indeed we should all be like a psychiatrist, painting pictures in our heads to view adversities in our life in another light, but truth be told not a lot of us can do that, else there won't be any psychiatrist around anymore..

You'd be surprised. It works for me and has been for many years.

Whenever I feel myself getting carried away by my instincts, I force my frontal lobe to do some work in order get back on course.

Taking this site as an example, my natural instinct was one of fear. "Starting a whoring site is going to get me into a shit load of trouble with the authorities. I'll probably end up in jail." kept going through my head.

I forced my frontal lobe to take over so that I could approach the whole project in a rational manner. The end result is Singapore's favourite sex site.
