Need advice from fellow bros...

Good pal of mine got a Viet wife, no kids. Recently blue IC got approved.... then out of blue, she say she wanna divorce my buddy, threaten to leave unless he give her family some money.

What are the laws on this issue?

Does my friend have the power to cancel her blue IC?

If don't give money and she run away, how?

If give her the money 1st time, there'll be a 2nd time.

If divorce, will she be be able to remain in S'pore and be entitled to anything of my friend's?

haha, then got to teach her to be more and more selfish herself. Monthly budget amount to give to her is fixed. If she wants to be hero and help her family, then she got to cut down her own "needs" and "wants" lor. Less shopping, less going out, less movies and etcs....

can this work?

Do you think this will work on the vietnamese ba xa?

If you implement that, then there will be two possible outcome. its either she will leave you for another man or she will be out somewhere meeting another man who can give her money

If you ask your friend to take a look at the entry permit card issued to his wife when she was granted PR, it was stated that her husband is Singaporean. Its approval was based on husband's citizenship. I am quite sure that your friend can cancel her wife's PR without much trouble at ICA as long as a good reason is given to ICA. But this can only be done after your friend file for seperation which will lead to divorce

Good news is that yes your friend can apply to ICA to withdraw as her registered sponsor but you will need a very valid reason, e.g. proof of preliminary statement of divorce petition if it is at the initial stage only.

You will also notice that ICA avoids giving any hard & fast rules on the revoking of SPR on their website as the intention of the Garment is to keep it open-ended so that they have more leeway to cancel those "undesirable" SPRs (e.g. those foreigners that make a mockery of the institution of marriage just to get Citizenship and than divorce).

Take note that the wife can apply for Citizenship herself (if she is gainfully employed) during her SPR status (better pre-warn your friend).

Bad news is that as a SPR married under the Singapore Constitution, she is accorded the same protection under women's charter as any married Singaporean women, as such she is entitled to ask for maintenance/alimony.

if both are PR, but the wife got the PR is because of the husband. On her own, she will never get the chance. Once they divorce, can the wife renew her PR on her own? or once divorce, the man can cancel his wife's PR immediately?

The general misconception is that the sponsor or spouse can "cancel" the PR status, which in reality no individual other than ICA (or the Gahmen"

) can revoke or cancel a PR status.

In theory if she is gainfully employed (means have a proper job) and never commit any criminal offences, her PR status should not be in jeopardy. However this is only in theory and the ICA has the right to revoke the PR status at any time.

The Beach have a lot of pebbles and not one only, what for you make yourself broke and penniless just to make her stay for that moment. She will confirm leave one day when you are broke since she can do this to you now. Better to save up the money and find for a second spring since dun have children yet. If you want Viet gals friends, i can intro you a big bunch of them if you go Vietnam.. There is no lacks of gals for you to chose, bro..

Wouldn't it be cheating on her part to gain the P.R.? Won't her initial application (based on her being the wife of my friend) now be considered vexatious?

End of the day it's my friend who's being used as a stepping stone into S'pore....
