Re: Vietnam - HCM
Have just get on to this thread about HCM city in Vietnam. Wow...lots of posting, probably will take me quite a while to read all. Only read up to 36 pages, and the date was still quite outdated in Mar 2005.
Could someone familiar with HCM please help me out with following information while I try to speed up reading the posts, as I am running a little bit short of time. Will be travelling to HCM this Wed the 5th. As I will be there only for a short business meeting, I thought of taking my wife along and return on Sat. Could anyone advise; - What is the recommended decent hotel (4 or 5 star) in city that are convenient for shopping and food, that is for my wife Heard Dist 1 is ok, pls advise hotel to stay and where should I book from? - Where are the nice place to shop? Market and Dept store - Where can we find nice chinese food there? Wife prefer chinese. - Any nearby sightseeing place worth visit? - Do they have spa or massage for girl? - Is it safe to be in the street in the evening? Sorry if the info are already in the thread, but haven't get there yet as most of it I read so far are for Chiong brothers, would love to have some quick fun but must find a way to seek excuse from CO. Any bro have recommendation on this will be welcome...will buy you drinks there...hahaha Hopeful this trip will give me some idea of HCM, and prepare for my future trips as I might be seeing more of this town if the business succeed. Cheers and will appreciate for any help rendered. Sebast97 |

It near to Tax department, Saigon River, Ben Thanh Market and Saigon River. Also near to Diamond Plaza, Notre Dame Cathedral, Reunification Palace etc. As for chinese food, there is one restaurant near An Dong market in China town call "Hua Xiang" which to me is quite good, forgot the actual street name as factory brought me there. Or you can have dinner beside Ben Thanh Market expecially Beef BBQ on tile. As for massage for woman, then you got to ask senior bro here as i always go to place where woman massage me. But i saw people giving leftlet in Japanese on street for massage, it indicated massage for couple also, but i think it USD120 per session.

Why the need to get a 4 or 5 star hotel? A normal 3 star hotel is already very good. Nice, clean , safe and good. You can try Empress Hotel (www.empresshotelvn.com) Its a 3 star hotel started by Hongkonger. I have stayed there numerous time when i first came to Vietnam. When you come to Vietnam, why take Chinese Food again? You should try Vietnamese food. Try walking down Dong Khoi Street in D1 and you will find a few good Vietnamese food resturant. You can also ask the Taxi driver to drive you to the entrance of CLUB ROYAL, next to it is a Vietnamese resturant by the name of HOANG YEN. Actually you can search the internet for tourist guide for HCMC. They have many good recommendations too. If i write all down, they will sue me for copyright fees. Hhahaha Cheers |

Regarding food, my taiwanese wife have some reservation about vietnam food after trying it here in Sg. Not that she cannot eat it but got to find out a good chinese food outlet just in case she need it. She don't mind Indian, malay, or thai food too if not too spicy. I search through some HCMC website but there are too many which I am not sure which to choose, so thought with your experience might be able to help me. Thank you for your help. |

Re: Vietnam - HCM
Bro Sebas,
If really need a 4 or 5 star hotel, then try New World Hotel. Book thru travel agent, you can get good rates from travel agents. Other good hotels you can try will be Caravelle Hotel, Sheraton, Hyatt etc. Chinese food can be found at District 5. There is one near An Dong Plaze called Ta Jia Le. By the way, forget about the Vietnamese food you tried in Singapore. They taste terrible and cost a bomb. Those here taste good and cost much lesser. |
