Re: Liverpool Fc @ Anfield - Reds Supporters Gatherings
Who's the ref yesterday? Haven't seen him before. Apparently a couple of new chaps to replace the old, short-sighted bunglers. Not much a difference unfortunately.

And something on EPL referees : Study shows EPL referees favour home teams LONDON: Academics have proved what team managers have been griping about for years – Premier League referees are inconsistent and favour home teams. After studying 2,660 English Premier League games over several seasons, researchers found referees were statistically more likely to show yellow and red cards to the away team. The study also discovered that some referees are significantly more likely to punish players than others. The researchers from the universities of Bath, Otago in New Zealand, St Andrews and Wales, Bangor, took into account home advantage, game importance and crowd size. “Managers have been right to highlight inconsistencies and controversial decisions in games, but without a proper analysis of refereeing decisions over a period of time, their comments look like the usual post-match gripe, especially if they are on the losing side,” said Dr Peter Dawson, an Economics lecturer at the University of Bath. The research also found that underdogs received more yellow and red cards than favourites. The number of offences tended to be higher towards the end of the season when evenly-matched teams played in games with a lot at stake. Large crowds also played a key role, inspiring more aggressive play from home teams. Dawson, a Wigan Athletic supporter, said the research even had implications for crime studies. “The football pitch is like a laboratory for crime economists,” he said. “You can introduce a new rule or increase the severity of a punishment and then see how long it takes for the referees and the players to adjust their behaviour.” The report is due to be published in the Journal of the Royal Statistical Society Series A. – Reuters |

I just cannot understand why Newcastle was playing so hard for ... the feat of not losing to any of the top 4 teams so much pride in it meh?? Wonder if they pocketed any kopi-money from Manure ... The only 2 consolations I can draw is: 1) Chelsea now has half the team focusing on the Premiership while another half the team focusing on the Champions League - very unlike us, where the only focus is on the Chmions League, following the two 2-0 victories this week. Looks like we're gonna be Champions of Europe for the 6th time ... hurray!! 2) The Manure backline is still non-existent, following Rio's painful groin problems ... so it may still not be so straight-forward as to who's gonna win the EPL. Hopefully, Chelsea's still gonna be the winners of the domestic treble ... double hurray!!!!

Until then, let's just say that refs alone, even if unbiased and unwavering in their decision-making, are not good enough for the game And it's really time to use video tech or at least have another ref on the field to consult after the play. As it stands now, IMHO approx half the offside decisions in a game are wrong. |

Re: Liverpool Fc @ Anfield - Reds Supporters Gatherings
Bro AXL, me also mid 30s now lei, but seriously I only start supporting liverpool during 80s, during 70s, i still too young to know ang moh language hehe. I never had the chance to witness keegan and his gang monopolise
The players from that period that i can recall watching are johnston, mcmahon, hansen, lawrenson, and nicol and alot others. had great memory of mcmahon. he is of tireless running and tackling. really a monster in midfield haha. On Sat wigan game, I did not actually caught the first goal, was busy as we were having a party for my daughter...hehe. but saw the later part of the game and bellar made few runs, 3 if not wrong, 1 result in the second goal. his usual style, full of running, and stretch the oppo defence. is good to see him back for the team and playing well, only thing missing from his game currently is a goal or two, it would certainly booast his confidence. with his speed and running, its actually good to have him coming on as sub. he can run at tired defence and created more openings for himself and the team. Hope they can get a good result against chelsea this thurs morning, guess the good thing abt chelsea drawing is, they are still 3 points behind the scrums, and they have to cincentrate winning AND SCORING more goals in all their remaining league game to have a chance of overtaking scrums. |

Re: Liverpool Fc @ Anfield - Reds Supporters Gatherings
thats why rafa is in the market for a top striker.
our defence is solid, but attack play not up to par yet. still need a very good striker that can knock in goals for fun. current strikers good, but not solid enough. |
