Re: Manchester United's Headliners, Articles and Rumours
Looks like draw of 1st team place (and $$$ wages) to big cheque book MC. Chelski interest too?? Torres rumour is just BS
Tevez set to spurn Ferguson - Transfers, Football - The Independent Tevez set to spurn Ferguson By Ian Herbert Monday, 15 June 2009 Tevez told Ferguson directly in the past few days that he wants to leave. Sir Alex Ferguson's attempt to keep Carlos Tevez at Old Trafford is having little tangible effect after the Argentine told the Manchester United manager directly in the past few days that he wants to leave. Ferguson, it is understood, has stepped up his attempts to persuade the striker that he does have a future with United by making several telephone calls from his holiday on the Cote d'Azur. But Tevez has been more direct with Ferguson than at any time in the past three months, reiterating that he is still intent on leaving. That means a move across Manchester still looks on the cards. City remain well ahead of Liverpool in their pursuit of the player, with the Premier League runners-up looking to schedule any transfer payment over four instalments and unable to come close either to the sum or the wages which City could offer. City's unconfirmed offer is £140,000 per week – a reflection that Tevez has proven ability to deliver in the Premier League. Chelsea are also believed to be a contender for his services, yet United have not given up all hope of Tevez remaining with them. Cristiano Ronaldo's departure, which should advance with his Real Madrid medical in the next few days, creates a greater chance for Tevez to start more major games next season.

Re: Manchester United's Headliners, Articles and Rumours
SAF has a war chest of 100m pounds. I hope he signs David Villa and David Silva from Valencia for a combined fee of around 60m. Another 20m to Wigan for right winger Valencia. If Villa goes to Real, then I hope SAF goes for E'to.
Line up for 2009/2010 : Foster Brown Ferdinand Vidic Evra Valencia Hargreaves Carrick Silva Rooney Villa (E'to) Subs: Berbatov, Anderson, Ji Sung, Rafael, Fletcher, O'Shea, Macheda, Van der Sar Players to sell : Nani, Wellbeck, Gibson, Campbell Eh, anybody has any idea what's happened to Manucho who was loaned to Hull? |

Re: Manchester United's Headliners, Articles and Rumours
Premier League - Lyon 'could sell Benzema' Lyon could be tempted to sell Karim Benzema to Manchester United if the Premier League side put in a big-money bid, according to director Bernard Lacombe. Benzema (pictured, right) is one of the world's hottest properties and speculation is rife that United are ready to use some of the money from the impending sale of Cristiano Ronaldo to Real Madrid to bring the young striker to Old Trafford. Lacombe claimed recently Benzema would remain at the Stade Gerland, but has now revealed the 21-year-old could be sold if the price is right. "He is with us, but no-one knows what will happen," Lacombe told regional daily Le Progres. "At the time we didn't think that Michael Essien would leave, but when Chelsea came with their cheque... "If Manchester United, who we all know have come into a lot of money, present an offer for Benzema, what can you do?" Ronaldo is set to become Madrid's second signing of the summer, following the purchase of Kaka from AC Milan. The pair will cost the club around 160million euros in transfer fees and Lacombe has lashed out at the Spaniards for distorting the market. He added: "The market is false because certain European clubs don't have official league bodies controlling how they are managed and can do what they want. "I'm not bitter but how can Real Madrid, who are in debt, sign two players whose price is almost the same as Lyon's entire budget? "It shocks we who are in the same environment, so I understand that people outside the football world are shocked. "It's baffling, clumsy and disrespectful. Economically Spain is at a standstill. We can't support this." Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas had earlier hinted he could be powerless to keep the forward at the Stade Gerland. "I won't hide from you the fact that he has been approached. For the moment, I managed to convince them not to go further," he said. Benzema came through the ranks at the French giants and burst onto the scene in the 2007-08 season with 31 goals in 51 games. That same season, the striker was named Ligue 1 player of the year and also topped the league's scoring charts. This campaign was less impressive for both club and player, as Lyon ended the season without the Ligue 1 title for the first time in eight years, but the France forward nevertheless scored 23 goals in all competitions - an average of a goal every other game.

Oh what a waste, at least MU will be alot of money to buy and groom more player and then sell it again. Cheers for MU as a commercial Football club.

Re: Manchester United's Headliners, Articles and Rumours
"New Ronaldino" Douglas Costa to join Man Utd?
Manchester United are understood to be in talks with Brazilian club Grêmio concerning the transfer of Douglas Costa, their much sought after teenage midfield player, as Sir Alex Ferguson looks to replace Real Madrid-bound Cristiano Ronaldo. Costa, who is commonly known simply as Douglas, is a left-footed attacking midfield player and free-kick specialist. In Brazil he is being hailed as "the new Ronaldinho" after earning rave reviews in his first full season with the Grêmio senior squad. United have been monitoring his progress for about two years; but following outstanding performances in the junior Copa Santiago tournament in January 2008, several other leading European clubs, including Liverpool, Inter Milan and Real Madrid began to show an interest. Grêmio responded by giving him a contract until February 2013, with a release clause estimated to be worth £13.5 million. However, Ferguson remains confident of signing the player this summer and adding him to the growing roster of Brazilian stars at Old Trafford. Douglas’s agent Cesar Bottega, however, was more circumspect yesterday when speaking about the negotiations: "There have been some informal conversations [but] I don’t believe they can reach those values. Right now, an offer might come in at a maximum of £6.7million. But this would not be enough for [Grêmio] president Duda Kroeff. At the end of the Brasileirão [Brazil’s equivalent of the Premier League which ends in December], Douglas will be worth at least twice what he’s worth now.” Ferguson is also hoping to complete the transfer of Antonio Valencia, the Wigan Athletic and Ecuador winger, before United head off to Asia for a series of pre-season friendlies in the middle of July. |

Re: Manchester United's Headliners, Articles and Rumours
Reports from The Sun, UK:-
MANCHESTER UNITED have been knocked back in their bid to take wonderkid Douglas Costa on a 20-day trial. The Brazilian midfielder, 18, has been tipped as a long-term replacement for Cristiano Ronaldo at Old Trafford. He is valued at around £13million but United are unsure whether he is ready for first team action. Douglas' current club Gremio are keen to keep hold of him but admit there is interest in the player from Europe. Club president Duda Kroeff said: "I received a phone call from someone working for Manchester United. "He asked for Douglas to be released and said that he would not play, but they wanted to see him in action. "I denied the request. Douglas is an established player, he is not a stranger. He has no need to face tests at European clubs." Hmmm.... seems like someone is playing hard ball when European clubs comes-a-calling. Good prospect though.
