Re: Liverpool Fc Anfield - Reds Supporters Gatherings

today is one of the saddest day of my life... as if once is not enough, its happening again...

Robbie Fowler has confirmed today that his contract at Liverpool will not be extended beyond this season.

The striker's deal runs out in the summer and he has been told by manager Rafael Benitez that he is free to leave the club.

Fowler will play against Charlton on Sunday in his last match at Anfield in a red shirt, and could also feature in the Champions League final in Athens on May 23.

He said: 'Obviously it will be an emotional day for me but I want everyone to know I am still completely focused on what I see as two very important games ahead for the club.

'Firstly I want to play well and win against Charlton to help us finish third, and then there is the preparation for and hopefully playing a part in the Champions League final.

'I will think about everything else after that because I don't want anything to interfere with such an important match.

'I also want people to know I have not even thought about my future beyond Liverpool.

'The manager explained the situation to me this week and I wasn't a bit surprised to be honest.

'But everyone knows I've treated every game back at Liverpool in exactly the same way and given all I could for the team, and that's going to be the case in the last two matches as well.'

Fowler, speaking to the Liverpool Echo, said: 'At least this time I will get a chance to say goodbye properly because I was gutted the way it happened last time.'

Fowler first left Anfield under a cloud to join Leeds when Gerard Houllier was manager.

He added: 'Since I've been back the support I have had from the fans has been tremendous, it's been even better than it was first time around.

'Maybe you appreciate it even more when you've been away and missed it so much, but I'll never forget the reception they gave me and will always be thankful for it.

'I just hope I can finish with a few goals and a Champions League final win. That will be the perfect way to end the season for me.'

''GOD' will never walk alone... LFC should retire the number 23 shirt in his memory...

every player needs time to get used to a new club, not to mention a new league and a new country altogether... of all the new signings, i m most impressed with dirk kuyt. 1st season in a much more competitive league and not playing as the main centre foward role... he knows it and he makes it up by being the one of the most hardworking players around.

for me most important is someone who comes in and can score the goals needed, be it torres, or villa, or someone else. bringing in big names does not gurantee success, just look at shev...very big reputation...but.....
well, only rafa knows what suprises he has for his opponents... all i know is that pool is slowly getting to where he wants them to be. although pool is much farther down the table this season as compared to last season, i feel that the stability of the core players r shining through. and also in europe, suddenly the team is showing that they deserve to be in the champs league final, with no need of other teams having to play badly or whatsoever, as compared to 2005.

as for sheva, he needed time to get used to the league. his class is again, permanent. i would always welcome him into the pool setup although it is impossible. sheva has done a lot of good for chelsea on the field whenever he plays. the media just refused or were too blind to recognise that. off the field, no comments cos didnt really bother to attempt to find out what the hoohaa was about...

Quote:
ya, i agreed with u on MO, think he is hunting hard for the team that can give him his league title... would be very surprise is rafa attempt to sign him for next season given the history
owen, owen... best if he stays in newcastle. that's all i want to say about him. it is only right as a human being. cheers...

ahh... king kenny. i was thinking... not bad if the youth academy can sprout another fowler now...

would like to take this opportunity to thank him for the memories he has brought to me during the barren years. his exuberence when he 1st broke into the liverpool 1st team, how he combined so well with rushie. his fastest hattrick in 4mins 37 secs, his goal-line snorting goal celebrations, his short-lived affair with emma bunton!!! his re-signing which he declared that it is christmas for him everyday and he wouldnt mind playing for pool even if he did not get paid...

but the greatest memory: his insistence that david seaman didnt touch him, his supreme sportsmanship displayed in a very important game!!! hmm, he and paolo di canio??? well, makes me think whether only bad boys have integrity...

bro, retire the 23 number like in american sports??? then carra wear number 9 next season ah??? hahaha... YNWA

from what i remembered, GOD took a couple of the youth players under his wing to impart some of his finishing touch and to give them a bit of confidence. hope that worked well in the course of the season.

as for rafa taking a special interest, i think parents would be more willing to let their sons train there if the manager takes his time to recruit them. but i dont think he will take up an active role in training though...

feel the same here.
it will be a great n fantastic move, to reture the 23 number as in american sports for a legend.
we can be the FIRST to retire a shirt number and show other clubs, how we treasure and treat our favourite....

hope he can go out with a BIG BANG tonight with a hat-trick, he deserves it more than anyone.

Cliched, but all good things come to an end. Robbie will get a proper send off this time in front of the Kop, and who's to say he won't pop up with the winner in Athens? Spendid son of Liverpool, unfortunately we can't roll back the years (or tears). I wish him well.

There's a lot of politics at the youth set up it seems. Heighway had a go at Houllier a while back (whom he called "strange" - not that I would violently agree with that) and he's come and lashed at Rafa taking over when he himself left. Resigned or forced out?

I do think the youth squads need a shakeup in terms of producing the goods - it's not impossible to produce good defenders for instance. Perhaps Rafa will change the policy at that level, remains to be seen. Hopefully we can see results in a season or two.

I don't see why Defoe ahead of others unless we leaving out Bellars.

Anyway, Rafa has mentioned numbers - a 20 goal a season striker, so I for one am happy that he has got the problem spot on and has the will - and hopefully backing, to get the man he wants.

Fowler is the true lad of Anfield. Not like Owen, he is a greedy fool.I won't feel sorry for him at the state he is in.The Kop will not welcome him back too.

Hopefully we can add one more winger to the squad...as a good team usually hv 2 players fighting for one position. Guess Joaquin is out of reach, the other alternatives are Daniel Alves and Pederson... A lot might not agreed with me..but I guess Harry Kewell had performed resonably well on the right..as comoared to Gonzales. Hopefully Benitez will keep him for the season to come.

hopefully they can add one more strikers into the squad too..i see Valencia valued David Villa for 50 million pounds..guess it's really crazy!! though Villa had proven records in La Liga and in the pervious World Cup..but asking for such an amt..i rather Benitez sourced for other alternatives..

Talking about Forest, Derby and Leeds...guess they have become the 'fallen giants' of the english league..if my memories serve me rite..Forest won 2 back to back European Cup in the late 70s/ early 80s...this put them the same no of cups won as MU...

Leeds United gained a lot of support from neutral fans when they did well in the late 90s to earlier parts of 2000. I rememberd one of the matches where they beaten Pool by 4 goals to 3. but now i guess they will disappear from the top flight for quite sometime...

Hahahaha..u got a point there...hopefully he will not come back and hunt Pool in the future....mayb he may be a 'jinx' to the team he played for...as his record had shown that he has yet to win any domestic title...

Voronin..i do a bit of research on his scoring record in the Bundesliga (http://soccernet.espn.go.com/players...26035&cc=4716).. not very impressive, except during his 1st season for Leverkusen when he scored 15 goals...

Another exciting player i can think of is Klaas-Jan Huntelaar..his scoring record is fantastic in the Dutch league and hopefully it will create a good partnership with his National team collague -Dirk Kyut...

another alternative is D.Bent.... from the already relegated Charlton..it will be much easier to persuade Bent than Defoe, as Spurs will most likely hanging onto him...

By adding the 2 new winger..Pool has more or less a complete squad..maybe adding one more defender will not do much harm, as Hyppia is getting near to retirement stage..

As Dudek has say prior to his farewell match at Anfield today..the prospect of Pool looks good..and with good acquisition from Benitez during the summer..he's quite sure that Pool will be crowned the champion soon....

Nope... taking players from other EPL clubs would not be the correct strategy. We need players better than what we, and our competitors have. Buying these players will only serve as backup for our current players, is Benni Maccarthy better than the strikers we have ??? Nope. How about Gamst Pederson ??? Nope. Are they better than Drogba, Ronaldo, Essien, Henry, Rooney, etc ??? Nope.
