Call to extend VEP registration of S'pore cars
Report from The STAR (Malaysia) dated 17 August 2015 :-
Call to extend VEP registration of S'pore cars PONTIAN: Online registration of foreign vehicles for the Vehicle Entry Permit (VEP) has to be extended beyond the stipulated two weeks in order to fix issues that have cropped up since registration started on Saturday. Johor Public Works, Rural and Regional Development Committee chairman Datuk Hasni Mohammad said that while the VEP implementation on Oct 1 would still be maintained, the online registration must be extended beyond Aug 31. He said based on feedback, the Road Transport Department (JPJ) needed to address some issues such as the registration forms being too complicated or ambiguous. “The two weeks may not be enough. There is no point in rushing to register everyone,” he said at the Pontian Umno Hari Raya open house, adding that the government did not want to pile unnecessary pressure on Singaporeans. He said it was still too early to say how many people had registered since the exericse started on Aug 15. The Transport Ministry had earlier announced that the VEP registration can only be done at www.jpj.gov.my/vep to encourage online transactions. The owner or representative appointed by the owner of the foreign-registered vehicle will have to provide personal information and car registration details, according to a statement. The affected categories of vehicles are private (vehicles owned by individuals, companies or organisations for private usage), commercial (vehicles owned by companies and used to transport goods or persons for hire), and VIP or Diplomat (vehicles owned by governments, consulates or embassies). After successful registration, the owner will be advised on the collection of an RFID tag, to be displayed on the vehicle’s windshield, at designated JPJ offices. There is an administration fee of RM10 imposed during tag collection, and the VEP is renewable every five years. The VEP is implemented by the Transport Ministry via JPJ for foreign-registered vehicles entering Malaysia. It will initially involve foreign-registered vehicles entering via Johor and will be implemented at the rest of the 12 road entry points in Malaysia in stages. The second phase will cover Thailand, the third phase Brunei and Indonesia, and the fourth phase other designated entry points. ----- KatoeyNewsNetwork |
