That's what I used to do, ask her to write in full with tones. As time pass, I slowly learn a few words here and there. So I just sub the words in and the message will get clearer.

I think most importantly must be there and 敢敢 use then can learn the language well.

When I started going Wetnam there wasn't any such things as smartphones yet so lan lan have to learn using the old school method by lugging along a small dictionary book that 1st half is eng-viet and 2nd half is viet-eng so can double check meanings before you use

& I still have that dictionary up till today

Althou troublesome but the advantage of using such a method is that you can learn/remember very well, using smartphones apps is so easy nowadays so most users cannot really learn & remember well

Best is to learn how to sing Viet songs...sure can help improve your tieng viet...all ting viet lyrics can trabslate...

so mahuan meh.. last time attend school at JC and GL can learn alot more leh.

Viet song is mostly on the northern ascent... all the /Z/ instead of /Y/
