that should win RvP the "Goal of the Season" award.
that 30m pass from Rooney is the "Assist of the Year" award (if there is such an award).
it was great satisfaction watching our best player score the fabulous goal to give our team the 20th championship title......as compared to a mid-table team's best player take a bite out of his opponent.

I read somewhere an article about the 5 games that won United the title. Just to share with bros here :

1. Liverpool 1 United 2 (Sep 2012)

Gerrard gave Pool the lead right after the start of the 2nd half. Rafael curled in a fine equaliser before RvP coolly slotted in a penalty to secure United's win and silence the Kop.

2. Chelsea 2 United 3 (Oct 2012)

United were 2 goals up before allowing Chelsea to score 2 and tie the game. Chelsea then had 2 players sent off - Ivanovic and Torres. Our Chicharito then went on and grabbed a late 3rd goal for United to register an important away win.

3. Aston Villa 2 United 3 (Nov 2012)

United fell to 2 goals from Villa's Weimann. But their character and never-say-die attitude stunned Villa Park with another amazing fightback. Again it was Chicharito who scored a late winner in the 87th minute.

4. Man City 2 United 3 (Dec 2012)

Who can forget RvP's last minute free kick that swerved away from City keeper Hart's desparing dive and into the net to spark wild celebrations from United fans?

5. Man United 4 Newcastle 3 (Dec 2012)

This pulsating game saw Newcastle lead United 3 times. But United showed tremendous resilience and fought back each time before Chicharito slid home the winner in the last minute to send Old Trafford into raptures and United 7 points clear in the table. We did not look back since.

Re: Manchester United's Headliners, Articles and Rumours

LEWANDOWSKI TO UNITED?

Extract from Football365 :

Here's what Roberto Lewandowski's agent said the other day, in case you missed it.

"We have reached an agreement with a club and intend [him] to move this summer," Maik Barthel told Sport Bild.

"There is a very interesting offer for Robert which fulfils entirely the demands set by Dortmund and also the demands of Robert.

"Dortmund have assured us that Robert can move at the end of the season under these conditions. We stick to agreements and now it's up to the clubs to sort things out."

And according to The Daily Star, the team he has an agreement with is Manchester United.

Apparently his 'heart' is set on England, with United his choice, ahead of City and Chelsea.

It says here that Lewandowski doesn't want to be a pariah like Mario Goetze, who will move from Dortmund to Bayern Munich in the summer.

Re: Manchester United's Headliners, Articles and Rumours

Van Persie frustrates Arsenal

Robin van Persie scored on his return to Arsenal as newly-crowned Premier League champions Manchester United drew 1-1 at Emirates Stadium.

On his first appearance back at his former home since last summer's £24million move to Old Trafford, the Dutchman converted a penalty late in the first half to cancel out Theo Walcott's early opener.

Arsenal had given United a guard of honour before kick-off after Sir Alex Ferguson's team won the league on Monday and the gesture passed without any controversy despite all the pre-match speculation.

But that Van Persie was the man to equalise only added to the frustration of Arsenal's fans, who had booed their former hero throughout and ended the game aware they had missed a chance to open daylight over derby rivals Tottenham Hotspur in the battle for the top four.

Inevitably, with just two minutes on the clock, Van Persie was involved in the opening goal but it was not in the manner the 29-year-old would have hoped as he unwittingly helped his former club take the lead.

Slipping when attempting a cross-field pass on the halfway line, Van Persie gave Arsenal the ball before Tomas Rosicky was able to play in Walcott, who was allowed to finish despite appearing to be marginally offside when one-on-one with David de Gea.

With the title already secured, United were not doing much to dismiss suggestions they had little to act as motivation other than Chelsea's record points target of 95 but, in the 18th minute, Phil Jones wasted a good headed chance from Van Persie's left-wing cross.

Arsenal were the dominant force but they shot themselves in the foot in the 44th minute when Bacary Sagna, having made a mistake with a back-pass, brought down Van Persie for a penalty from which the Holland international rifled into the corner of the net.

After his title-winning hat-trick against Aston Villa on Monday, it was Van Persie's 25th goal of the season, which will surely see him win the Premier League's golden boot given the suspension of Liverpool's Luis Suarez.

As the second half began, Rosicky's curling effort with the outside of his boot went close to restoring Arsenal's lead but United responded, with Van Persie's low cross almost finding Wayne Rooney inside the six-yard box.

Shortly after the hour mark, and with United becoming the better team, Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger introduced star man Jack Wilshere in place of Rosicky among his second-half substitutes.

But other than a curler from Santi Cazorla, which had to be saved by De Gea, United remained the greater threat on the counter-attack and substitute Ryan Giggs saw a late effort deflected just wide as the game ended in a draw.

After the game, Ferguson was unimpressed with referee Phil Dowd, who booked five United players in comparison with three men from Arsenal.

The Scot told Sky Sports: "We have got probably the best disciplinary record in the country. For Manchester United to have five players booked, I do not think that is right."

But Wenger defended the aggression shown by his players, as he explained: "From the first to the last minute, it was two teams giving absolutely everything to win."

Re: Manchester United's Headliners, Articles and Rumours

Man United dominate PFA team

Premier League champions Manchester United had four players selected for the team of the year by the Professional Footballers' Association.

Goalkeeper David De Gea, defender Rio Ferdinand. midfielder Michael Carrick and forward Robin van Persie were all selected by their peers as the best players in their positions.

Dutchman van Persie, who moved to Old Trafford from Arsenal last summer, has scored 25 goals so far this term to help United win their 20th league title.

Chelsea had midfielders Eden Hazard and Juan Mata chosen, and Tottenham Hotspur central defender Jan Vertonghen and Gareth Bale were both included in the 11.

Manchester City's dependable full-back Pablo Zabaleta, Leighton Baines of Everton and, controversial forward Luis Suarez, of Liverpool, made up the stellar line-up.

Zabaleta tweeted from ‏@pablo_zabaleta: "Truly humbled to be included within the @PFA Team Of The Year. It's an honour to play and be named alongside such great players. Thanks."

PFA's 2012/13 team of year: De Gea (Manchester United), Zabaleta (Manchester City), Ferdinand (Manchester United), Vertonghen (Tottenham Hotspur), Baines (Everton), Hazard (Chelsea), Carrick (Manchester United), Mata (Chelsea), Bale (Tottenham Hotspur), Suarez (Liverpool), Van Persie (Manchester United)

Re: Manchester United's Headliners, Articles and Rumours

Will Fergie Clear Out United's Dross...?

They have won the title, they won't get that record points total and they're now lying back until someone places a pillow over the face of their season and sends it to merciful oblivion.

However, what the 1-0 defeat to Chelsea showed was that surely, this Manchester United squad requires some trimming, and there are a few obvious places to start.

Anderson has been 'promising' ever since arriving at United some six years ago, without ever really progressing beyond that. Some encouraging performances have frequently been taken by the optimistic sorts as the start of something new, a glimpse of a player worth the £18million United paid for him back in 2007. But they've been false dawns, teases that Anderson could be the answer to their continuing gap in central midfield, without him ever becoming that player.

You can forgive being slightly underwhelming. Anderson is not, after all, responsible for how much money United paid for him. What he is responsible for is a level of fitness expected of a Premier League footballer, a level that he palpably does not have. To watch the big-boned Brazilian puff around the pitch, seemingly unable or unwilling (equally unacceptable) to break into a trot after 20 minutes of the Chelsea game as the visitors attacked. That he has only completed 90 minutes 18 times in six years is pretty embarrassing.

Nani falls into a similar category, although he at least has the decency to be physically capable of running around a bit. Consistently inconsistent, Nani also has the disadvantage of a similarly quick, unpredictable right-footed winger who plays from the left arriving in the summer in the shape of Wilfried Zaha. The Portuguese does have in his favour that he has generally produced his best form for United playing on the right, so perhaps he can switch over to that side and be more useful.

Which brings us to Antonio Valencia, who is not mentioned in the 'For Sale' sections of the gossip pages as much as Nani and Anderson, if at all. However, he is just as much of a candidate for the clear-out as his teammates, based on this season's form. A colleague remarked during the Chelsea game that Valencia's fall is pretty much as dramatic as Fernando Torres's, a view that isn't as silly as it might otherwise sound.

Torres only gets the attention he does for his poor form because of the whole £50million business, as well as being a favourite of Roman Abramovich, foisted on a series of unfortunate Chelsea managers. But like Torres, Valencia often looks like he has forgotten how to play football, a foal not entirely in control of his own legs and certainly with little idea of what to do with that ball at his feet. In times past Valencia would pick up the ball, knock it past the full-back and power towards the byline before either clipping over or pulling back a measured cross. Now he picks up the ball and either stumbles into the full-back or shanks the thing into the crowd. The Old Trafford crowd doesn't even sound that surprised when it happens anymore, every error eliciting just a mild 'This sh*t again' grumble rather than a howl of derision.

The sale of these three (and there are others, of course - Ashley Young etc) should cobble together enough cash to finally buy that central midfielder, but once again Sir Alex Ferguson doesn't sound keen.

"We have no plans to sell anyone," said Ferguson last week.

"That's a fact. There is no need for us to sell anyone. Nani played last week at Arsenal and he did well. When he is in form there are very few better than him. So I think we will bring him back in pre-season training and he will be all right."

Of course, when Fergie tells you it's pasta you check under the sauce to make sure, his public pronouncements usually leaning towards the 'constructive bullsh*t' side of misleading - constructive, obviously, because statements like that serve a purpose. Specifically, his purpose - he's more likely to get a good price for his wares if he says they're still Manchester United players than if he says they're expensive rubbish.

There has been much talk about whether this United team compares with Fergie's best, but that makes it easy to mask that there is a fair amount of dross in this squad. Ferguson would be best finally cutting his losses on at least two, possibly all three of the players mentioned here, but whether he will...well, it's wise never to predict what the old boy will do next.

Re: Manchester United's Headliners, Articles and Rumours

united reallly played under par last night against chelski. can't really blame them as the title has already been sewn up and thus not much motivation to play to the standards that we have gotten used to......

then again, the loss to chelski last nite has given spurs a real big headache in the CL qualification.....even arsenal must surely be feeling the jitters now.....although their run-in is relatively much easier compared to spurs....

if spurs doesn't make the CL qualification (again).....would bale still want to stay with them? maybe united can move in and buy him?

maybe last nite's game was part of sir alex's plan to land bale? hmmmm.....just a figment of my imagination.....hahaha......

Kns, under performed indeed for a grudge match vs chelskis. One man up front with RVP, and until late then choot chiu with Roon, Chicharito?

For chelskis, solo goall was worth CL millions

not your imagaination, United is obviously lacking quality wingers who can supply and score. Bale is the best choice if United want to progress far in next year CL, so imagine if Spurs can't make it to the CL next season, will Bale stay??

Sir Alex may be 71yrs old now, but his brain is still working like a young adult and if he manage to bring Bale in, it will do United good both on the field and commercial.

SIR ALEX FERGUSON CONSIDERS RETIREMENT?

Sir Alex Ferguson is considering retiring as Manchester United manager before the end of the week, reports the Daily Telegraph's Mark Ogden. (external)

As rumours of the 71-year-old's imminent retirement swept Manchester, senior figures at the club failed to respond to repeated attempts to confirm or deny the story, which emerged following United's player versus coaches golf day near Altrincham on Tuesday afternoon.

With United now forced to adhere to the strict regulations of the New York Stock Exchange in terms of the release of significant information relating to the running of the club following last August's partial flotation, any change of management would fall within those requirements.

As of Tuesday night, no statement over Ferguson's future had been issued by United.

Ferguson had appeared to brush aside the prospect of standing down this summer when he insisted in his programme notes prior to Sunday's Old Trafford defeat against Chelsea that "I certainly don't have any plans at the moment to walk away from what I believe will be something special".

Ferguson's future was the subject of intense speculation on Tuesday night as rumours circled Manchester that he is set to announce his retirement.

United players were apparently told at a golf day that the club are preparing a major announcement at the final home match of the season, against Swansea on Sunday, when they will receive the Premier League trophy.

'Ferguson to quit' rumour rocks United - Daily Mail (external)

United failed on Tuesday night to quell suggestions inside and outside the club that manager Ferguson is about to announce his retirement.

The speculation is also believed to have been aired among the United first-team squad. The club refused to comment on Tuesday night and, although that is not unusual, the club were not even returning calls on the matter.

Ferguson's future as United boss was under intense speculation on Tuesday amid claims of a major announcement at Old Trafford on Sunday.

United's players, who were involved in a golf match with Ferguson's coaching staff on Tuesday, were told to expect an announcement on Ferguson's future while MUTV, the club's in-house TV station, was also primed to broadcast a major development on Sunday.
