Rafael Benitez has spoken of his delight in capturing Spanish starlet Mikel San Jose from Athletic Bilbao.
The centre-half will start life at Anfield in Gary Ablett's reserve team squad - but Benitez thinks he has all the potential to break into the first team over the coming seasons.

San Jose was in impressive form during the summer as he helped Spain win the UEFA European Under-19 championships. Spain beat Greece 1-0 in the final last month.

"Mikel can play in central midfield or centre half. He won the Under-19 tournament with Spain during the summer and is a good prospect for the future," enthused Benitez.

I get the shivers whenever I see Paletta play too ... despite his full array of reputation/potential when he was first signed on. He seems to me like he's easily sucked in by the high tempo around, almost as if he's watching a pin-ball game at the arcade!!!

However, in all fairness, both Riise & Arbeloa are no ready-made centre-back replacements ... besides the lack of aerial presence (that's to put it very vey mildly), man-marking strikers or denying strikers the chance to turn & shoot are not in their natural game yet ...

I have my reservation ... Rafa said the same of Paletta when he arrived 2 seasons ago - for the uninitiated, Paletta was considered instrumental in the Argentinian team that won the FIFA Youth World Championships in 2005.

I dun really care if the lad is English or not, as long as he step up to the plate when called upon.
In this case, if Hyypia & Carra cannot play ... plus the fact that both Godwin Antwi & Miki Roque are currently out on loan, he's probably gonna be called on for the Toulouse game. In comparison, being captain of the reserves team, he's been properly exposed to the LFC system of play ... while Mikel San Hose just arrived an Anfield this summer, despite all his potential.
However, I have this strange feeling, Rafa might put Sissoko (or even Gerrard, if he were fit) in the centre of defence for this (monetarily) critical game against Toulouse.
