Buy the LCD monitor from Singapore and bring it there- Less than 300SGD for 17".

DIY a Athlon(chose the slowest one - no difference) with 1GB ram in HCMC - around 600-700(The difference between SG and HCMC will be less than 100SGD).

If not you can buy all the parts from SG - excluding the casing. Buy the casing from HCMC and assemble it there.

The other alternative is to buy a second PC there. 300USD you can get a full set. But not advisable, because the PC are at least 2 years old.

Bui thi xuan has alot of second hand PC store. The law was pass down last June - no old electronic goods(include PC) are supposed to be imported to Vietnam. Some of these stores are still selling old stocks - so you can imagine how old these PC, monitors are.

Full set computer are expensive and with lousy configuration(starts from USD500). DIY a PC in HCMC is still ok. But make sure you check the parts given to you, especially if you ask them to assemble for you. Some stores will definitely cheat you - change your parts to cheaper or old parts.

LCD monitor - wrapped nicely with the original packaging, you can check-in. Will not spoil one. Carry the whole set? Not advisable. Most likely you will be overloaded, Tigerair allows 15kg(add $x to 20kg), Jetstar allows 20kg(add $x to 25kg). A PC set(plus 5-7kg for LCD monitor) will be around 12-18kg. Access baggage charge will already make up the difference from buying in HCMC. Maybe that's why you saw a guy carrying a CRT monitor - around 8-12kg.
