Angeles City (Balibago) Tips

A small piece of information from recent experience.

Tried Bangkok Hotel in AC. P 1,100 per night for a standard room. Really good location at Fields opposite the open bar area. Relatively new place. Most of the items (TV, furniture etc) look new or at least much much newer than the others which I've stayed in ie Ramadas, Phoenix and Brass Knob. Good working aircon (not like the one in Brass Knob).

Friendly reception (Seems that all if not most hotels have pretty good friendly receptionists). Free coffee, tea and water (in the hallway). Cable TV. Nice firm beds.

Nothing much to dislike except rather small rooms. One bed and approx two to three feet either side of the bed with a wardrobe to keep your stuff on one side. Think Hotel 81 and you've got the general idea.

The bathroom does not have a wet and dry area and if you are playing in the bathroom with your partner, your throne gets all wet. Working heaters. The bathrooms is larger than hotel 81's anytime though.

The PC at the reception has free internet but you've gotta change the language settings from Korean to something you understand.

My main gripe though is that transport to the DMIA airport costs P 500 here as compared to the others which charge P 300. Ramadas gives out free pick-up and send-off the last time I was there. I took the Airport Jeepney to SM but took Bangkok Hotel's taxi to the airport.

But overall the best value hotel in AC so far (for a cheap charlie like me).

Overall AC is cheaper than Pattaya due to exchange rate but the bottom line is which city is safer? I feel that Pattaya is safer because I can blend in the crowd since I can pass as Thai but I can't pass as Filipino!

You'll blend in perfectly in Angeles City.
After the Filipinos the Koreans make up the next largest group of people there.

Ah Hia,

I stand corrected, my humble apology, you deserve a free San Miguel Dark Beer! I had Lasik Surgery back in 2005, the best investment I made in Bangkok! Also, no need KY since mine is small so easy in and out!

i am not too tanned. but when i was in Manila, people always speak to me in Tagalog. i do everything the local does, including taking the Jeepney.

There are many 2nd / 3rd generation filipino chinese in manila.
I have a few friends amongst them whose grandparents settled there.
They look chinese but cannot speak any chinese lingo

Ah Hia,

I'm getting ready for my AC trip, been working out regularly, trying to lose weight by not eating junk food and Kegel exercises twice a day! I'll bring 2 of my favorite gags to entertained the girls, guarantee that you'll flip out when you see and hear the gags!

i travelled alone when i first went to philippines. was in AC and then took the "Fly-the-Bus" down to Manila. never had much of a safety issue except i got thrown out of a taxi once.

And my filipino-chinese friend's parents are scared because of the fear he may be kidnapped when he stay out late

Bus - I take the white rabbit, if i am not in a rushy mood or have a partner to go along - just 165 peso .. and ends up in Dau terminal
