if the police spot check, the man will get 2000 USD fine...so beware of that.

I also like to listen to our "Lobang King" for his suggestions that will be very useful.
I was just wondering why did he only mentioned that the guy will be fined? There is also a possibility of jail term / staying in "re-education centres". and also this dosent only applies to the guys, it also applies to the ladies as well.

I would suggest dun go Hotel, rent a house is safer...and also cheaper...
Do you know that it's illegal for a unmarried couple to stay together in a house be it rented or purchased. Cong an can also catch and fine. I dun know how much is the fine, maybe SingViet or anyone knew.

If you are staying long term in Vietnam, just registered yr name and yr gal in the household book.... That way you will be safe..
I believe it can be done in the station ...

So I am Super Lucky!!! I live with my Girlfriend and one Cong An live 10 metres away. I registered for my stay in the house and the Cong An have also come to my house for visit. However, nothing happens!!! No Fine, No Jail, No Warning.. nothing at all.
I have many vietnamese friends who are living with their girlfriends before they are married, so I really doubt that the law is so strict. Anyway, this is only my personal experience.

The law only applies to after 9pm or 11pm. Cant really recall.
However, if you have the same girl staying with you it is "acceptable", it only invites trouble if you regularly BRING different girls back to your place especially at night. Not only that, people like to gossip and as such, there might be a chance that your neighbours will report to the police.
Because of my house mate, I have personally experienced this before. The cops said our neighbours complained about my housemate.
