Australia cheers China imports, while Singaporeans complain whole day, weeks, life...

https://au.sports.yahoo.com/commonwe.../#post-comment Qin claims 3m diving Games gold Six years after her chef father relocated their family from China, Esther Qin has served up a recipe for success for Australia at the Commonwealth Games diving in Edinburgh. Qin, 22, had endured a half-baked Games lead-up after failing to qualify for the recent Shanghai World Cup 3m final. But she cooked up something special on Saturday night, nailing her program and notching 347.25 points to claim gold. Canada's Jennifer Abel (324.70) took silver and England's Hannah Starling (316.95) bronze. It was only Australia's second diving gold in Edinburgh after Matthew Mitcham and Domonic Bedggood sealed a 10m synchro win barely 24 hours earlier. Qin relished the victory, delivering on the promise she had shown in China where she trained with the elite Beijing program before her father took his cooking skills to Australia. It was some consolation after Qin spectacularly crashed out at the Shanghai World Cup 3m, missing the final entirely. "I missed my best dive. I just wanted to kill myself - I was so disappointed," Qin said of her World Cup flop. Qin was swamped by Australian teammates pool-side when the Games result was confirmed but compatriot Maddison Keeney cut an inconsolable figure after finishing fourth - just eight points behind bronze medallist Starling. She was made to rue a third dive where her feet scraped the diving board on descent and she never recovered. It followed her nervous wobble which appeared to rob her of almost certain gold and relegate her to one metre springboard Games silver barely 24 hours earlier. "It's been a bit of a nightmare really," Keeney said. "I don't usually hit the board but at training I did it here, then in the (3m) synchro and then again now - that's three times in four days when I haven't done it in years. "I guess I have a technical problem. "But I got two medals so I can't be too disappointed." Keeney had earlier claimed 3m synchro bronze with Annabelle Smith who finished eighth in the 3m individual final on Saturday night. Click here to view the whole thread at www.sammyboy.com. |
