Thumbs up New Sinkie Prefers To Train Back Home! Sinkie Land Farked Up!

An honorable member of the Coffee Shop Has Just Posted the Following:

Tao Li, the PRC imported National Swimmer, has chosen not to train with Singapore’s National Training Centre (NTC) Squad and instead has chosen to train in China, her home country in preparation for the SEA Games.

The SEA games are being held in Singapore in June this year and Singapore has a brand new head swim coach, Sergio Lopez to prepare our national team for the games.

The NTC squad will be training at the OCBC Aquatic Centre which is also likely to be the pool going to be used for the SEA games itself.

The NTC has tough requirements with only a few selected being allowed to participate in the national training squad.

While 59 carded swimmers were invited last month by the Singapore Swimming Association to apply for the NTC training squad, only 23 have been selected. The rest of those who applied are being reviewed.

Despite the special training squad and the home-soil training ground, two-time Asian Games Gold Medallist Tao Li has opted not to train here and instead decided to go to China to train at her birthplace of Hubei.

It seems that she does not have any definitive plans to train in Singapore at all and said imply that she was “see how”.

Earlier, Tao also asked the Singapore Sports Institute to fund her training overseas but it is understood that this application is still under consideration.

It seems that Tao Li is not sinking roots in Singapore at all and does not even want to train here for the upcoming SEA games here.

She prefers to be in her birthplace for training. It seems she is more comfortable there.

Will Tao Li become like the former national table tennis player Li Jiawei who took her big earnings from Singapore and promptly retired back in China?

While the government says these talents often sink roots here and help locals, the reality is that many of them come here just to reap the benefits of our million-dollar sports awards programs and then just go back to their own countries to retire comfortably at a young age.

For Tao Li, she even wants Singapore to pay for her trip and expenses to go back to her hometown.

Do you feel proud when Singapore wins sports medals by importing talents who don’t even call Singapore home?
