Japanese Media: Singapore is North Korea, Ai Takagi is jailed only because she criticized the government


A Japanese business media called Singapore a dictatorship and openly denounced the Singapore government for oppressing criticisms by jailing Ai Takagi. The news article called Singapore “a Bright North Korea”, meaning that the country enjoyed economic prosperity but it’s political situation is no different that of the dictatorship run by Kim Jong Un.

Ai Takagi’s website, The Real Singapore, covered news and stories contributed by Singaporeans from all walks of life. Most of the contributions are anonymous because the Singapore people are afraid of the ruling party government which imprison and impose fines on individuals who criticize them. The Singapore government is deliberately punishing Ai Takagi, who is already 3 months pregnant, with a 10 month jail sentence.

The Japanese media also added that it is not uncommon for a Southeast Asian country to have a dictatorship and ban free speech.
