Kidnapped 12-year-old Vietnamese girl found pregnant in China

Police in Xuzhou’s Tongshan district stated on their Sina Weibo account on Friday that police in neighboring Quanshan district informed them Tuesday that they believed the young girl to be an abductee after receiving a call from the local hospital. An official investigation later found that a woman surnamed Xie from Central China’s Henan Province abducted the girl and sold her to a Xuzhou man surnamed Liu, China National Radio reported Friday. According to Xuzhou Central Hospital, Xie and Liu claimed to be the girl’s relatives when they brought her in for an examination on Tuesday and they told doctors that the girl was 20. Doctors found the girl had been pregnant for 12 weeks. However, doctors doubted that she was 20 years old, based on her physical appearance. During the examination, her “relatives” took charge of communication with a doctor who later asked them to wait outside so he could talk to the girl. The girl, who lacked any kind of identification, said she was a foreigner and was not able to speak to the doctor, The Beijing News reported. Tongshan police said on their Weibo that they have detained Xie, but offered no further details about the girl’s identity. A total of 14 Vietnamese women and girls have been abducted in South China’s Yunnan Province and sold since 2011, CCTV reported.

HCM City restaurant accused of cheating Australian man of $30,000 in payment card fraud

On August 11, David John Caracciolo had dinner at Nightfall restaurant in District 1’s Thai Van Lung Street. He paid the meal with his payment cards and after got back to his home country, the man realized he was charged with the above amount. Le Kim Yen, his authorized representative on Saturday confirmed withTuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper that the restaurant staff deliberately swiped both of his cards multiple times. At the time, they also asked him several times for the cards’ passwords, saying there were technical issues. They did not provide John with any payment bill or money transfer receipt, Yen added. “He believed and did not check his account until getting back to Australian and received an account statement from his bank,” Yen said. “He found that Nightfall swiped his cards 8 times and took the money”. The Australian man’s authorized person confirmed again that he did not sign any bill at the time the payment was conducted at Nightfall. According to lawyer Truong Xuan Tam who represents Mr Caracciolo in Vietnam, Nightfall restaurant must be responsible once the money was transferred to their account. “We are currently not able to contact to the owner as the restaurant was moved to another location,” the lawyer said. “However, its registered business address is still valid.” Report shared by Tuoi Tre News

Storm Aere to change direction when hitting East Vietnam Sea

Skirting Hong Kong, the storm moved northwards and centered at 21.7 degrees latitude north and 117.4 degrees longitude east at 8:00 am on Sunday, with maximum sustained winds blowing at 60-90 kph. Over the next 24 hours, Aere is anticipated to head east at 5 kph before changing its path to a west-southwest direction. It is predicted to be 650 km to the northeast of Vietnam’s Hoang Sa (Paracel) Islands at 7:00 am on Monday, carrying winds registering at eight on the Beaufort scale, ravaging its path with extremely rough seas and strong squalls as high as 11 on the Beaufort scale. But the storm is likely to downgrade to a tropical depression by Tuesday, about 430 km to the northeast of the Paracels, the NCHMF forecast. The depression will then accelerate at 10-15 kph, steering itself towards the Chinese island of Hainan before heading further to Vietnam’s central region, according to the weather center. Under the effect of the southwesterly winds, the southern and central zones of the East Vietnam Sea and the coastal areas from Binh Thuan to Ca Mau Provinces are expected to have rainy squalls and rough seas with 1.5-2.5 meter high waves
