There was an offer at Big-C also to win a motorbike... that week I was there we kept on buying groceries from Big C.

All I won was 2 very sore arms, from carrying bags of groceries back the 20min motor ride, one in each arm.

dont mean to be rude or anything but a local VN company will never pay you that amount. The only way is to get employed outside of vietnam and then get sent to vietnam on an EXPAT package. You should be able to hit USD$3.5K

However you have to bear in mind that Vietnam's Persoanl Income Tax (PIT) rate which is deducted from your monthly salary and is progressive and quite high and there is no way you can get it back even if you are a foreignor.

The best way is to negotiate for the company to pay you a NETT salary.

Or you can get paid some in S'pore and some in VN.

But then, since your wife is VNmese, the best person to give you any advice would be her..

The other possible way is to come and work first and then look around

To give you a rough idea about jobs, try

Anh trai, cam on! I didn't know about the the Personal Income Tax which they pay. I did some snooping previously, even my vietnamese clients say that for a 29yr old honors degree holder with 7 years working experience, if you can get USD1600 considered very good already.

Also just to be clear, ba xa cua toi chi "ba xa", khong phai vo. he he. Chua dinh khi nao le cuoi nha.

Don't worry, i didn't find your post rude at all, on the contrary i found it and your previous ones very informative.

Re: Vietnam - HCM

I have some Viet trivials dunno if they have been metioned previously in the thousands of pages before.

1) What is that USD 100 note u sometimes see lying on the streets but no one picks up?

2) What is the name of this dish: a perfectly good grilled egg with yolk n white all mixed together in solid form after you peeled the shell off.

Reaper sir..

This topic interests me.

How is the PIT impact on Vietnamese working overseas? Reason is I plan to employ a couple to work out of Vietnam. Presently negotiating salary package for them. They have indicated their targeted salary and Im trying to negotiate down.

Does paying them partially in Viet and Overseas work better?

If you are planning to employ them to work out of vietnam, than I am not very sure how it works if you pay them in Vietnam and Singapore (I presume you are paying them in Singapore). However vietnam is one of very very few countries that practice Double Taxation. Am not sure if they still do. Best to is to ask your lawyer to check on the legality side of it. I am in no position to advice you on this matter. All business licenses etc etc is handled by the managers and lawyers.

What I can say for certain is that I am working in vietnam and to prevent from being heavily taxed, I get about 1/3 of my salary here and the rest is banked into a S'pore account because my employers are a Singaporean Company.

Please dont call me sir, very honoured but a simple hello willl do.

PS
Do not change to Dong outside of Vietnam as the rates are very very poor as the Dong is bascally a worthless currency outside of Vietnam. What you can do is change a minimal amount to get you from the airport to your destination. And the rest you can change in the city centre. Taxi fare should not be more than VND100,000 which is aporximatly USD$6

Just to give you a rough gauge.

USD$100 = VND 1.8 Mil (changed in Vietnam)
