The minimum amount for buying a property in malaysia by foreigner has been raised up to rm500,000. Reason could be due to cheaper housing has to be reserved for malaysians only.

Foreigner who wanted to buy property in msia not only have to pay levy + stamp duty + lawyer fee, application to purchase the property need to be submitted to foreign investment committee in KL for approval.

Recently, i notice that the standard of living in JB is getting higher. A plate of chicken rice use to be sold at rm3 now increase to rm4. Bak ku teh last time at rm6.50, but now up to rm8. But the increase in the price of goods and services in other states is not so significant and substantial unlike JB.

Even for massage, charges in some mp in JB is really ridiculously expensive e.g. rainbow mp at jln serampang, the prc/NL masseuse also ask for additional money of rm50-100 for roaming beside the rm60 massage fee, rm5 pull curtain fee and request for tips. But this is unlikely to happen in other states. Like in KL, a FJ session with a PRC streetwalker in town who has her own hotel room, you can enjoy with just rm100 for a fj with rubber provided somemore.
Should be cost of living not standard of living.

Most of the resale units are mostly mature estates with good location like town area and are reserved for malaysian to buy only. At least ur garment take good care of their citizens housing needs. Unlike Sillypore garment!

The minimum amount for buying a property in malaysia by foreigner has been raised up to rm500,000. Reason could be due to cheaper housing has to be reserved for malaysians only. I oso ustand teres quota for foreign ownership too.

Foreigner who wanted to buy property in msia not only have to pay levy + stamp duty + lawyer fee, application to purchase the property need to be submitted to foreign investment committee in KL for approval. OK

Thanks for your highlight. Yes it should be "cost of living".

The cost of living in JB is getting higher partly due to its close distance to s'pore and could be due to the increase in salary of the workers in JB.

Notice that singapore is getting as a more expensive city to live in due to the rise in property prices over the past few years and the recent strong singapore dollar and also the tight labour markets.

Too many car ownership in singapore partly affect the cost of the COE to increase substantially. Owning a car in spore is really expensive as compare to own one in msia due to :
1) Need to pay for COE 50+ K to 60+ k
2) Higher car sales tax
3) Higher petrol price. Many sporean came to JB to pump petrol.
4) Higher maintenance and servcing fee. Many sporean came to JB to service car.
5) Higher road tax.
6) Higher insurance fee per annum.
7) Higher parking fee. Msia parking fee cheaper and in some area can park for free e.g. park in the taman outside residential area.
Therefore think twice before owning a car in s'pore.

Since there is a high inflation reported recently of 4.5% instead of the norm of 3% in singapore, it will cause the currency to appreciate further. The price of food and transportation costs in singapore will also be affected.

Yes agree, changing at spore arcade is always still the best, offering better exchange rate than any JB money changer. But some people maybe staying in the west, north west, or north spore which save the trouble and time, they proceed directly to jb without passing raffles place unlike people staying in town area or in the east.

Exclamation Re: Malaysian Ringgit rate update

Long ago when I drove into JB, at the JB checkpoint kiosks, I forgot I did not have any RM to pay the entry into JB fee. I looked behind and realised I could not reverse because there were at least 4 - 6 cars close behind me. I offered to pay in SGP$. The toll collector asked for the SAME amount not in RM but in SGP$! That is about more than twice the amount in RM. I lan, lan paid up and drove out. Remember to change your money into RM before entering JB.

To the bros who have posted tips pertaining to this thread, thank you for your helpful information.

not sure about this but with the low GDP during 2nd quarter, will MAS appreciate the SGD to tackle the inflation? guess this is the only tool to curb the inflation right? or raise the interest rate? sorry not good in macro economics hope any bros can predict this.

my personal guess is 2.7 to 2.8 by end this year.

Recent high exchange rate of the sing dollar may be due to 2 reasons :

1) Sing dollar itself appreciating due to high inflation

2) Weakening of the ringgit due to election coming.
