The unit in question has another 8 months to completion (anticipated).

Is this dangerous? Is this a normal practice in vn? Does anyone have any idea if nova land, the developers, are a safe bet?

I also intend to buy; but only completed unit with proper title.
Sound advice from bro MFC, this not only applies to Vietnam but to practically all our neighbouring cuntries as well JB is already 1 good example of having quite a number of uncompleted developments when the developers ran out of funds and just simply stopped, and all the buyers LL cause there isn't anything they can do but to wait.
Moreover for your expected completion date of 8 months, I can also safely assure you that it will be TWICE that number of months, cause this is what I always experienced before in Wetnam not gona talk more details as it involves my actual work

Have you tried asking them for deferred payment until TOP? Never try never know at least at risk is only your downpayment and not 98% of the whole price
