I am not in the position to say who is old bird etc... if you think you are old bird, then you are old bird lor. Actually the main thing is to share ideas and share experience, as long as don't give wrong info can already. In Vn, u can be there for damm long time or maybe just a short time, the main thing are the contacts. No use mixing around with all the foreigners in HCM, want to get things done, need to know local big shots. That's what i realised after being in HCM for sometime. All foreigners can talk this talk that and talk big, but want to do biz... u need local government agencies to issue license, u need the ward / district police to give u face etc

U need money n know correct ppl....... 1 of my friend, spent more than 20KSGD in Shenzhen entertaining the "white" n "black", end of the day still can't get a license to open a pub....

Is it safe to hangout in the streets at night?

I checked out the web and found the following hotels in HCM D1 probably within my budget. Which will you recommend in order of preference? Thanks in advance.

1. Dong Vien (I think currently under reno/construction? Anyone knows what inconveniences out of this?)
2. Palace Hotel
3. Que Huong - Liberty 4
4. Metropole

Hopefully, one that is girl-friendly too.

a staff(guy) from the hotel wanted to bring me to "mo mo cha" - karaoke near my hotel. I am staying in a hotel in D1 - near to Empress hotel.

he gave me the following pricing:
1. Drinks and others - around 400k VND
2. Tips - 100k per girl

anyone can advise me if this a good try? or anyone wants to join me to take alook

400k for drinks is considered very cheap already... maybe u will be drowing yourself in beers. Tips at 100k is also reasonable, but have to depend on what extra service she gives u
