Re: Pre-Employment Examination
It's possible, but remember that there are other factors such as leading a healthy lifestyle, being mentally positive, adhering to medication, etc.

There was a few cases of people being diagnosed as HIV and then a few years later another test shows no HIV. But that is likely due to mis-diagnosis rather than pure medical fact of people fighting off and 'recovering' from HIV, isn't it? |

Re: Pre-Employment Examination
There is NO cure of HIV. Once you have it, you will always be HIV positive.
Recover means recover from whatever infections the person is having at that point of time. Remember that HIV attacks the immune system, so HIV+ ppl can fall sick due to many sorts of illnesses, even fever, flu, etc.

Re: Pre-Employment Examination
Yes, pre-employment medical examination involves HIV testing.
Refer here: http://www.sma.org.sg/sma_news/3403/...ory_022002.pdf This is the important excerpt: The Controller of Work Permits issues medical examination report forms which provide for different tests to be done during each 6-monthly medical examination: • VDRL screening (this is for syphilis) and pregnancy screening are required for every examination. • HIV test is required for the first examination and subsequently every 18 months. • Chest x-ray (to screen for TB) is required between 12 to 18 months from the date of issue of the work permit. Doing HIV test will ensure that the worker does not work in an environment where there is a high possibility of spreading the disease (e.g. a surgeon). Also, it will also be a good screen since these workers may not have done such a screen in their countries. They may then be more careful when they have sexual relations, especially with their spouses at their own country, or when they bang our own pool of FLs - it affects us too! |

Re: Pre-Employment Examination
That's for Maids and Migrant Workers. Not too sure if S'poreans need.
But insurance companies do ask applicants to go for HIV test.

The pre-employment testing is basically a small testing if you are a local and does not include HIV as far as I know. I have worked in the govt, SME and MNC sectors and all have very simple pre-employment testing. But, the insurance provided by these companies usually through a 3rd party, you might want to check the terms and conditions to see if they have anything related to HIV/AIDS, as they often might. A lot of people are very mis-informed about HIV / AIDS. I would seriously recommend you to go to the "the body" website to learn more and get educated. Fliinger |

What you might have read is that their "viral load" could be undetectable and their CD4 count could be high and thus they feel better and don't get sick that much. Flinger |

Re: Pre-Employment Examination
May I verify your statement about AIDS patient recovering from their infection to mean that they recovered from AIDS or just recovering from symptons from AIDS. I understand that current medical advances couldn't eliminate HIV. Thanks
