definitely pride and ego problem exist, not thick skin enough. another important thing is there could still be love be it opp sex or friendship kind that makes it even harder to accept.

all men have ego. your intention is understood, but maybe the way you said it wasn't too pleasent. all men don't like to feel like they are toys. we want to know that we are needed.

although meaning is the same, but when u phrase it differntly, results also different.

maybe u can try signalling him that you need a favor. maybe he will oblige. then after a few favor sessions, then u slowly suggest to help him with the financial matter.

I will say he really treated you as a close, good friend and nothing more.
Hence when you offered to keep him as 'toyboy' or what, he got offended.

I remembered many years back when I was quite heavily in debt due to bad gambling and loan shark borrowing from my mother. I helped her in paying the debts and interests, and in the end, had almost nothing left over monthly. A good friend offer to help me by 'borrowing' me money, and jokingly say I can repay her by sleeping with her. I got quite offended (Stupid of me perhaps =X) and rejected it.

It's not about no ego or what. I appreciated her help in offering to borrow me money for expenses I needed, but quite offended for the 'repay' method as I treat her as a very good, close friend, and nothing more.

if i was him, after hearing those words from a close friend like you that u willing to 'bao' me, i will definitely feel angry.

you can actually just say that u are willingly loan him the money and he just need to return back whenever he can. i am sure he will be totally be grateful for your action.
but instead, you just have to hurt a friendship when you mentioned 'baoing' him, especially those words come out from a close friend.

simplest way for u to do now is just apologise to him and let him know you didn't mean to offend him but just trying to help to ease his difficulties. he should be able to forgive you this time i hope.
