All about Sihanoukville

Since theres not much posting here, so let me share some places Ive been to in sihanoukville.

This small park is one of my favourite place to go and relax. This place is quite shady because of the trees and i love the sugar cane drinks here. I would buy a drink here, sit under the tree, close my eyes and relax. On the map, the red dot is the place.

================================================== =

Sometimes in the morning, I may ride my motorcycle n travel along the road by the port to a small market place to view and buy things, things are very cheap here, 4 mangoes for usd1. The ladies here are very friendly too.

Look at the pier in the map, yes ive rode my bike here too, you may do fishing here if u wish.

Re: All about Sihanoukville

I discovered this temple by chance too. I used to travel along this road when i stayed in holiday palace casino resort and everytime when i passed by this road and saw this arch, i was curious where this track leads to. And so one day i decide to check it out and to my surprise i discovered this hugh temple complex.

About 30 mins away from Sihanoukville, for the adventurous, one should visit this kbal Chhay Waterfall resort.

Ive not visited this waterfall yet but will surely ride my bike up here.

Hi, have you been to kampot. I heard this place is a durian paradise. Can you recommend durian plantations to us whereby we can eat cheaply within their plantations. Preferably those whereby we pay one time and can eat all that we can. Ive not been to kampot but will surely go. Lately ive been doing alot of research on kampot.

I would like to share what ive found :-

Durian farms in kampot

I guess when in kampot, one got to visit this Teuk Chhou Resort Kampot too. I guess the live river is the reason for this resort to appear.

Re: All about kampot and Kap

After digging for materials about kampot, i then began to wonder, how am i going to pass my time in kampot so that i wont be bored.

I was thinking, if all i could do in kampot was to visit those fruit plantations, eat durians, visit waterfall etc, after a while i will surely feel bored too.

After much thoughts, i then realise that if i really wish to enjoy myself fully, and not be bored after a while, i must first have some money (not necessary alot but of course the more the merrier) so that i can have the freedom to do whatever i like.

So to enjoy myself, so that i wont be bored, i must have varieties such as casinos, women, sleep, eat, adventure, cheap places to sleep (very impt to be cheap so as to be able to stay for long periods), market places to buy cheap stuff to cook. Cheap and clean places to makan. And very important a motorcycle to travel.

Ok, so how am i going to enjoy my stay in kampot?
First

Re: Cambodia Phnom Penh Nightlife Discussion

first of all durians in cambodia CMI, it is hard, woody, not fragrant, not creamy, not sweet, not bitter, so dont need waste time and money, furthermore some durian can cost USD5$++ per kilo!!!

as for kmapot, it used to be a sleepy town, now a days lots of expats from sihanoukville had been forced to live there, so some girl hostess bars have started to pop up there, other than that, not much to do anyways, ah tiongs have also started to trickle into kampot as well, yes, so have fun.

I think most likely the cambodians love unripe durians so durians were pluck from the trees when it is semi ripe and sold to the market. If this is the case, then surely ripe durians that drop to the ground should be as good as those in malaysia.

Yes things n activities to avoid getting bored is impt.
Do update on the costs of living when u there, like accomodation , food n necessities (incl pussies)
i always feel it`s better to purchase rather than rent a home if u are really settling down long term ,ofc provided there is not much bubble in the price.
My opinion is as long as the property price is below 20years rental , its worth consideration. Below 15years is attractive for staying purposes.

How do u intend to keep your money for long term stay?
Open a local bank acct w atm card hv conditions.
Or use Spore bank atm cards for withdrawal?

We hv similar goals of retiring in a foreign poor country.
Just that i m targetting Vietnam or Philipines.
Wish u the best in your retirement in Kampot.

Many use to think like this, a cheap and not so boring place to retire (less the casino)....some ended up in Chiangmai, cheap room rental 3-5k baht monthly for a room, buy a 2nd hand motorcycle 8-10k baht, cheap pre cook food in market below 100 baht have 3-4 dishes and cook your own rice can eat 1-2 days, many places nearby can ride bike to venture even to golden triangle etc,

Monthly expenses for a person can be as low as 7-9k baht or sgd 300-400.....many angmo nomad living here. Few retired people rent out their HDB back home for sgd 1.6 - 2k and live on only 400-500 sgd, every month can save (or earn) more than 1k

Regarding money, the best is I can deposit money in a bank in singapore or johore bahru and then i can slowly withdraw out the money from a bank or an atm machine in cambodia at very low cost. How this can be done I need members advice. I saw a hugh Maybank in Phnom Penh.

Ive already enquired, using remittance n western union is vv expensive.

If you intend to settle down in Cambodia, you can open a bank account earning 5-6% interest per annum from their local bank but in USD they call it term account but there will be a government tax deduction of around 1.5% if you choose to withdraw after mature

It apply for foreigner who work there with document like company letter or a long term stay pass valid for 6 Months which can be done by tour agency at a fees of few hundred USD

If you don't have none of that, some local bank allow you to open with passport only like ABA bank.Their atm charge a high rate for withdrawal from oversea bank card so take note

If you intend to move around rather then stay long term there, avoid the hassle and just carry enough cash along for those days there.
