Those areas are central, many old buildings with cheaper rent, and the residents there kind of got used to these seedy biz in their surroundings. No one bats an eyelid. So will always be there.

But sooner or later, gradually these places will undergo renewal and become "gentrified". The central location is a big draw. One example is the vicinity of Horne road and Foch road. Condos spring up, hipster cafes and bars, shiny malls, rent goes up and up - it's just a matter of time in future all the seedy activities will die off naturally.

Must say Flanders Sq is one freaking funny n strange decision of our garment.
It’s a legal place for prostitution but it’s sticking out like a sore thumb among condos, shopping centre n shophouses. I think condo owners might also have a hard time gettin a good price to sell their condos.wonder y don’t our dear garment Juz shift the place elsewhere to a more secluded area?

The area has been gazetted for such activities and will take some urban redevelopment to repurpose it the same way they had done with Telok Kurau. Before they relocated the red light district to Geylang, TK was gangland for hardcore vice.

Geylang red light area is another bizarre example. On one side of the guillemard road, new HDB flats are coming up. The other side of the road brings you to the lorongs. The residents of the older flats at cassia probably used to it.
