For the interest of the rest, I went to GM BKK Forex shop (1st shop on the left facing GM), asked what's the remittence rate and then passed her my Sing$ and she transfer the $$$ for me. I might have caused some misunderstanding in my earlier reply but u knew the answer all these while, so why u asked a question when u already knew the answer? |

Re: thai baht rate update
Aiyoh, mai ani, I want to build a 8 mil baht house for my gig in Chiang Mai, 1 15 mil baht house in Khao Yai for my weekend golfing and 1 20mil baht house for my home stay in BKK. So I need to know what is the best way to transfer money out of Singapore to Thailand.
Either you are building a big cannon or you are prata man. Since years ago you been talking about exchange rates and you exchanged your SGD to THB in various locations, so from other locations, the THB you exchanged how you pass to BKK forex?? Anyway, continue with your nonsense, don't bother me. If I want to continue on, definitely will break your big cannon.... You know nothing about property and yet willing to invest more than SGD100k cash in it? My cannon is bigger, I am going to invest about SGD1.8 mil. Today rates is bad, less than 24. I exchanged SGD 10k, lost a lot.

Re: thai baht rate update
My two cents worth - I visit BKK quite often, I generally find that changing money there is much better than in SG. In fact, even the changers at Suvarnabhumi airport can equal or better Arcade. Some more you have to pay for expensive parking just to visit Arcade.
There is a money changer at Chit Lom BTS station too, just after the fare gates in the direction towards Holiday Inn (concourse above street level). Gives rates that are about 1% better than the airport. Convenient if you are enroute to Zen mall. |

BTW that SUPER RICH at Chidlom MRT doesn't have the best rates in Bangkok. Maybe a few days in a month but u cannot say they r the best... I've posted this many months ago... their neighbor 90% of the time triumphs them... PS... u also taking commission from the banks at Swampy ah? พี่ซูเปอร์สุดยอดครับ

Re: thai baht rate update
Like i said, just my 2 cts worth. i go to BKK about once every mth. when i first started this last year, i always changed at the arcade first then ended up finding out rates at "swampy" were same or better. The Chidlom rates are definitely always better than "swampy".
Its not just THB. I've been let down by arcade for IDR, CNY, PHP etc in their respective countries. To be fair, the difference is not big. unless you are changing lots of 'ks. Drive down to arcade + erp + parking will probably wipe out any savings assuming Arcade is better. Anyway, thanks for the info. It's simple. Next week when I stop by Swampy, I will check the rates against Arcade anyway - if it's worse off, then I learn something and thank you very much. If it's better, it's something for you to think about. |

It's a given that sanambins (airports) are worse places to change your dosh, in most destinations. Also, rule of thumb is marginally better rates from open, financial centre like SG (but Pesos defy this logic, reverse in exciting Philippines). Got to do with money market conditions. All said, unless you got family fortune to change ..diff (for odd short trip, kopi money) may not be worthwhile. Of course, you can bet on horse by season parking your thb in local thai banks (if you got dough to spare). Never quite sure of SuperRich, big notes or ..isn't this big opportunity loss? Few timeS I spied SR stalls in BTS stations or mall, rates are just as bad as rest leh. (IMO, you seem to let go in LOS thread today. That time of month, huh?

Re: thai baht rate update
Yeah time of the month coming up. Actually time last month and time this month only 2 weeks apart this time. So not always 28 days apart like the other "time".
Agreed that most airports are pretty bad, I find that the TH, PH and VN airports are ok though. As in when you go to the city you may find better rates but you won't feel you've been completely shafted. Changi is really bad though. but it's good for me. because when i do travel claims, i have to produce a changer receipt for expenses in foreign currencies. so...... that's why i always change $50 at changi haha. anyway another destination i go to quite often is bali to chill. on the streets every 3rd shop is a changer and every other is a "changer" if you know what i mean. if you go to the "changer" you get to watch a game of shuffle-your-notes and god knows what you will get back. nowadays i avoid those with counters that look like car-jockey ones. i go in, ask for big notes (IDR100k is only $14 anyway) only so its easier to count. |
