Barcelona 2 - 1 Málaga : Barca left it late

Lionel Messi struck a late winner to help Barcelona overcome battling Malaga 2-1 and keep their place at the top of the Primera Division standings.

Pep Guardiola`s side, who have struggled for top form in recent weeks, had to bide their time to break down Malaga though despite dominating most of the match.

Pedro Rodriguez was the man to end the deadlock in the 69th minute but it would be Messi who was the match-winner with his 84th-minute tap-in coming after Malaga had shocked their hosts by drawing level through substitute Valmiro Valdo.

Almeria 2 - 2 Barcelona : 10-man Barca held

Barcelona twice came from behind to win a point at Almeria in a match blighted by some bizarre refereeing decisions from Carlos Clos Gomez.

Clos Gomez delayed the start of the match for almost a quarter of an hour, harshly sent off Pep Guardiola and Zlatan Ibrahimovic and incorrectly awarded a free-kick to Barcelona which led to their first equaliser.

Domingo Cisma had put Almeria ahead after 12 minutes, with the home side's second coming 12 minutes into the second period via a Carles Puyol own-goal.

But Lionel Messi's double gave 10-man Barca a point.

Barcelona 3 - 0 Valencia : Messi's brilliant hat-trick

Lionel Messi struck a brilliant second half hat-trick to give Barcelona victory over Valencia at the Nou Camp and ensure Pep Guardiola's side finish the night at least level on points with Real Madrid at the top of the table.

Following an evenly-disputed first period in which Valencia gave as good as they got, Messi took centre stage with a spectacular treble.

The winger beat three Valencia players to give Barca the lead after 56 minutes, before adding two more fine efforts in the closing stages - both set up by substitute Thierry Henry - after the visitors had been reduced to 10 men following the sending-off of Hedwiges Maduro.

Lionel Messi staged another masterclass to power holders Barcelona into the quarter-finals of the Champions League at the expense of Stuttgart.

Messi struck a brilliant opener after just 12 minutes to put Barca on track, and then played a key role as Pedro Rodriguez made it 2-0 soon after as the Catalan giants built a 3-1 aggregate lead.

Messi, who was a constant menace, added a third on the hour mark to take his tally to eight goals in the last four games before Bojan Krkic completed the romp late on as Barca became Spain's only representative to make it into the last eight.

Real Zaragoza 2 - 4 Barcelona : Unstoppable Messi runs riot

Lionel Messi continued his remarkable goalscoring form with a hat-trick as Barcelona moved level once more with Real Madrid at the Primera Liga summit with victory at Real Zaragoza.

The Argentina winger, who also scored a hat-trick in his last league match against Valencia, opened the scoring with a header after five minutes and added two more after the break to send his side 3-0 ahead.

That should have made the game safe for Barca, but Zaragoza rallied with a brace from substitute Adrian Colunga to set up a nervy ending.

Barcelona provisionally moved back to the top of the Primera Division standings by becoming only the second team to take points off Real Mallorca at their Ono Estadi this season - with a 1-0 win.

Barcelona 4 - 1 Athletic Bilbao : Barca breeze past Bilbao

Barcelona showed they have plenty in reserve ahead of Tuesday's Champions League quarter-final second leg against Arsenal as they beat Athletic Bilbao 4-1 with a team featuring several fringe players at the Nou Camp.

Barca scrapped their usual 4-3-3 formation in favour of a more orthodox 4-4-2, while there were also several changes in personnel - including Bojan Krkic promoted from the bench after Zlatan Ibrahimovic struggled in the warm-up with a right leg problem. The Swede is to undergo tests and should find out the severity of his injury on Sunday.

But the results were the same as the Catalans stormed to a resounding victory to move provisionally back to the top of La Liga in perfect preparation for Tuesday's clash with the Gunners.

Youngster Jeffren Suarez, who started on the right of midfield, opened the scoring after 26 minutes, before Bojan bagged a brace either side of half-time.

Lionel Messi added a fourth midway through the second period and, although Markel Susaeta pulled a goal back for Athletic late on, it was merely a consolation.
