I did told him the fare should be 80p n not going to pay meter read when getting down.

Just a week ago, i took a cab from Manila airport to bus station nearby.
Before go up ask the driver is it metered taxi, he said yes n i got in.
Got in he said only 200p which is more than double the correct fare.
I going to open the door n get down then he said OK OK n on the meter.
On the way he said i should pay the line n i told him i already asked him is it a metered taxi n prepared to go down if it isn't.
He keep quiet n when reaching destination, 75p meter read. I put 80p on the dashboard n get down.

datou, I don't know what I did to invoke your wrath

I never claimed to be expert on AC, and in fact haven't been there for two or three years now, for fishing .. only been landing in AC for other work stuff.

And for Manila, same, I never claimed to be expert, and I always suggest the others also to contribute where I don't know things, and my forays are limited, unlike you. Others including Longitude, phiter, and often I have sought updated info where somebody has ventured to places I haven't been to, like recently I suggested Remedios circle...

You are much senior and experienced, unlike me

My suggestion has always been to exercise caution, where possible.

Since you feel I am feeding wrong info here, I leave it in your good hands, to address future queries that may arise from anybody visiting Manila

U are still the manila expert people look to providing Manila infos .

Not much people here want to write detail description of their encounters w these rogue taxis which i believe all of us has bad experience w.

I m just describing my few real experiences w these Manila taxi drivers n how i deal w them, they are just trying their luck to con every foreigners whenever they can.
I don't fear them a single bit, not to say RUN from them.
For me, calm n firm w no provokation, n they can't take advantage of us.


Anyway it's still up to individual how they choose to deal w them.

what is the value of a peso ?

taxi driver will aways scam us. It is like their right to do so. But what is our option, say to stop the cab and walk away from the charade or let him just chalk up a few more dollar? Transport in a foreign soil means going from point A to B in the safest and least costly way. If it means losing a few bucks, I say it is ok.

Opinion mine, yours to chose.

You are right, bro. Need to exercise caution. In fact I have stopped using cabs a long time ago. I don't want my day to be ruined by some unreasonable cab driver. So I always have a regular driver to take me to places. Cost more but my day remains pleasant.

The last time it happened, I alighted and didn't pay nor said anything. That was the last straw that broke the camel's back. Now I hire a car and driver. I may be buying my own car and hire my own driver soon.

Gooner80: Holiday Inn Makati is sort of inter-connected with Glorietta, which is next to Green belt.

Walk around Havana and generally, you may see free lancers around, be careful of the seductive LBs, btw

If you got time, you can always take a taxi .. to P Burgos, or walk to P Burgos .. it is just 4 KM distance, but by taxi in jam, can be 15 minutes or so away
