Re: Monthly trip to ChangPing, HouJie HuMen
Drinking kaki needed in CP - July 19!!
To the bros that I have met and also to the bros that I have not met, please feel free to contact me, if you are in cp on the above date and planning to go drinking and sing song. I need kakis to join me going drinking together, on hard liquor with mixer (default is chivas + green tea). The ideal group size is between 5-8, so that we can fix the deal to rmb400 per pax, free flow. Expected drinking level will be moderate or high, as I have a female challenger with me, who claims herself as a good drinker. I know the above date is not weekend, some bros only arriving on july 20... But if you happen to be there, please do let me know... |

Re: Monthly trip to ChangPing, HouJie HuMen
3dee, you have done a great job, hope you don't mind I post a quick guide here for noob to CP:
For noobs, a lot here are repeat of what have already been said by 3dee and other bros with just a little embellishment... Getting there (for first timer): Depending on where your starting point is, if in HK, best option is to go take the through train from Hong Hum station, you can find the schedule at www.kcr.com.hk - just make sure you buy the ticket to CP or Dongguan and not to GZ. This is the least complicated way, on arrival you will go through the immigration/custom check and head downstairs for transport. Many touts will approach you but ignore them, head straight out to the line of "4-wheels" (a small lorry/van type thing) or "bread car" (mini van) and they will take you anywhere within CP for RMB15. Just tell the driver the name of the hotel or KTV or restaurant. If you start from other places, you can refer to the rest of the reports in this forum... Where to Stay: My favorite place is Lucky Hotel, although it was refurbished a year ago, it's old compare to some of the newer hotel but it's central and convenient. You should be able to get a room for around RMB200 (more or less) - never accept the published rate, always make sure you ask for 'special rate'. Normally as soon as I check in, I will head out the hotel and to the left is a small store so that I can stock up on liquid (very handy when you have heavy exercise) and also to change some RMB - as far as I can tell, they accept HKD, USD and SGD. To the right of the hotel is "Chui Hua" makan-place. Price is quite high - similar to HK price but the food is to my liking. Also you can order by phone and have them deliver up to your room if you are too lazy or exhausted very late in the night. The other great thing about lucky hotel is to dim-sum on the second floor here (early morning to lunch), I always have my lunch here as the food is great and cheap. For those more adventurous and like to try the local cheap szechuan spicy stuff, you can head to the back alley right behind the hotel for some really cheap and good spicy food. Anyway, the strectch on Lucky Hotel has many other hotels, shops, eateries, etc. For people who stays long or coming in at the back of business trip, there are laundry shop around and will do your laundry for cheap. Recommended daytime activity: In front of Lucky Hotel, they are alot of 'pimps' hanging right outside the hotel. If you are horny, you can ask them to send some to your room to pick... Other things to do are foot-massage (available at the ground floor of the hotel) and for clean full body massage, you can go to "thousand flower" right behind Hui Mei (operated by the same foot-massage in Lucky Hotel 2 minutes walk). Of course you can try out the 'dirty bone massage' town. For me, I tend to stick to activity around the hotel as to & fro transport cost RMB30 each time - unless you are adventurous enough to take the motorbike taxi. For night-time, it's KTV as always, Jiayi is one of the most popular lately, but do go early (before 6:30pm) or else you will be left with 'pork-chops' to choose from. But there many good KTV elsewhere. Most KTV will require advance booking on weekends. KTV room goes by minimum of cost (drinks & food). For example if are in a group of 4, you can get a decent size room for RMB400 to RMB800 depending on the KTV you go to plus the additional of RMB100 for the DJ. Normally, average drinkers with beers only should be able to cover the KTV cost, if not enough, you can always order more to cover the bill and keep the beer for the next time (limited period only) or order some food. Note, for a group of 4 average drinkers (each with one girl) with beers only, the damage per person for the whole night should be around RMB300 inclusive each. So watch out if you are charge a lot more than that. of course, if you are heavy drinkers and have many girls and/or lots of managers/mamasan coming in to drink with you, then the damage will be a lot higher. Again, if you are heavy drinkers and your bills rises, make sure you make known to the managers/mamasan. Some will even offer you a few bottles of free beer or snacks, don't be shy to ask. Again for noobs, the MMs cost 2/5/8 in most KTV (RMB200 for sitting with you, RMB400 to take back for one-shot and RMB800 for the whole night). Some KTV will cost slightly less (1/4/7). Reminder to noobs: please do not give in to the temptation of acting like big shot or fall for the sap story and give them more money than neccessary (to MMs or anyone in fact) - this spoils the market and in the end, you won't get any real benefit out of it except maybe the feeling of been a "water-fish". For MMs outside of KTV (fa-lang or from the pimps), make sure you haggle and their price should be less than those in KTV. A tip for hard-liquor guys in a fair size group, if coming in cross border, get your bottle from the duty free. When you go to the KTV, bring along your knapsack or something and 'smuggle' the bottle in. Note, it's advisable not to take out your hard liquor immediately, if you are not a regular, then invite one or two "captain/managers" to drink and befriend them and then ask them nicely, especially towards the latter part in the evening - most will allow it especially if you are there for a couple of nights and book the next night from them. It's a good time to go in July, so can enjoy the fresh longans. Btw, I hate going there during late-Aug/Sep as everyone in KTV will pester you to buy mooncakes from them, especially if you are regular there and make many acquitances (managers, mamasan, etc.) I will be in CP next week and will update my report when I get back. Cheers. |

yeah, bro 3dee is correct. don't ever go into a car you don't really know. if you are unlucky, robbed and left somewhere. if you are really unlucky, you know la. don't take the transport from shenzhen luohu that is not public. we took once, and almost kanna, the fella turned off some still yet to be constructed exit on the highway, can you imagine.... i don't really know the rate direct to CP from airport, but i have abt 3 different drivers, depending on your mood. take the contacts from bro 3dee and should you require additional ones, let me know. i have one that is a brand new camry, so slightly more exp, but travel in style. haha. |

wah bro, really impressed by your FR!! well done!! wanna up u but i can't, since i have up u before... hehe, seems like we have the similar cheong pattern, i also always stay at Lucky and went to Chui Hua restaurant. both places i can have discount by showing my face... without having any discount card. For bros who intend to stay at Lucky, upon your booking, you can just mention my name, u will get 50% discount for all type of rooms. but of course, u need to say my name in chinese lah... but nowadays i seldom go Chui Hua, bcos of ah-hua... my ex gf who is working in the restaurant... a bit pai seh to meet her after we broke, so i shifted myself to Kan Yuan kopitiam and Yummy thai restaurant. the supervisor (主任) is quite nice looking (there is only one female supervisor, but many ministers, 部长), and like to party... bros who is looking for non WL bonking, can consider! another bu-zhang, ah-min, my good friend... also available to take, she is a bit darker but she likes sporeans n msians! also like Lucky 2nd floor dim sum, personally i feel that the foods r better than miraton one n cheaper, but hardly see sporeans there... but u will c lots of sporeans at miraton 2nd floor (especially during weekend). the money exchange that u mentioned, i bet is the one that between Lucky and Kan Yuan kopitiam, the small convenient and food store that operate by two brothers? fyi, they accept many currencies, included indo rupiah, malay ringgit, britain pound n etc... i got friends who changed these currencies b4... looking forward to hearing from you!~~ |
