Report from Bangkok Post dated Wednesday 14 March 2007 :-

Baht hits another 9-year high

The baht traded this morning at barely over 35 per US dollar, the highest rate since shortly after the 1997 collapse of the currency.

Amid speculation that the military backed government will soon life currency controls, the baht hit 35.01 per dollar on Wednesday morning.

The baht has gained 12 per cent this year against the dollar, despite frantic efforts by the government to keep the value down.

It is now far above the point which sparked protests by exporters last year, which in turn led to the currency controls. Those controls have proved useless in regulating the currency.

On overnight markets overseas, the baht traded at 32.725 baht in what many claim is a two-tier currency market.

well, 4 those who go Thailand frequently & using SGD to change THB, if u are so concerned about the rise of THB, why din tink of hedging the currencies?
