i have come to a conclusion that we r not going to win the bpl this season.we will be up there till the end n might jus end up finishing 2nd or 3rd but pts wise it will be close.i jus don t c us winning it when we can t beat stoke n fulham at home.its no point beating chelsea n the scums n end up not winning the league.last few seasons we were never in it till the end but i have a feeling we will be very close n end up losing it.it gonna be heartbreaking so be prepared guys.

Bro it's always easy to see from hindsight. Alonso, a popular choice obviously, but maybe tired? Mascher tired too? Yossi, maybe, but he has been average this season.

It's not about the players at the end of the day - look at Torres, ran his socks off first half but had no support. Would Alonso have lifted the team to a win? Hard to say. We lacked the energy on the day.

Heartbreaking? Welcome to Liverpool

Bro, don't judge based on one game and forget the 13 others we have played. We are JOINT TOP with Chelsea despite our injuries to key players and with signings like Keane yet to find form. Of course Chelsea have injuries too but they have a far deeper and more expensive squad. Some people would have written us off after Stoke also. I for one am not going to throw the towel in yet.

Re: Liverpool Fc Anfield - Reds Supporters Gatherings

when i heard gerrard wasnt playing in the fulham game, me bro and i left a wedding dinner early just to catch the game, thinking that the other players will always step up a gear to compensate for gerrard's absence. guess it wasnt meant to be.

on hindsight, biggest culprit of all: rafa got it wrong about lucas. alonso is tired, mascherano is tired, i know. but when THE key player is injured, u dont blood youngsters unless u really have no choice. alonso should play right from the start, get the lead and put lucas in then so that he wouldnt be under so much pressure to perform. central midfield is a pivotal role to the whole game. lucas only seemed intent on not making any mistakes, thus causing him to execute safe back passes to his defenders instead of pushing forward. lucas' performance sorely points out liverpool's reliance on gerrard's surging runs.

rafa's substitutions were uninspired, perferring to stick to straight swaps which produced nothing noteworthy. where was the inspiring substitutions i saw earlier in the season when rafa took out the 2 full backs and sent on 2 extra wingers??? oh, i guess he couldnt do that cos the centrebacks were struggling to contain bobby zamora!!! agger looked really awful!!! god, i miss martin skrtel!!! he plays like a bloody no-nonsense executioner (not mentioning that he looks like one mean eastern european gangster!!!).

on a more optimistic note, liverpool hasnt hit top gear yet and in truth, they have rarely looked comfortable this season. yet, liverpool r still joint top of the table. i just wish they would get thru the hectic holiday season unscathed and as usual, hit top gear in the new year. cheers.

Hey Zamora outpaced Mascher at one stage heheheh.

Let's just look forward to the next game, Marseille and then West Ham at home.

If we are going to win the league this season, it will not be without lots of ups and downs and surprises. We are Rafa's Liverpool after all, never do things the easy way.

What a wasted chance to get on top again, always plays second fiddle to Chelsea, blah...
yeah ... agree tt Keane had been missing too many chances. but when he scores, they r often quite classy goals. strangely whn he was in Spurs he was able to find d net with ease. Likewise for Anelka, after he left Pool for Chelski.

Not every player can score goals wherever he play, like a certain "owen"

At this rate, Keane might be 1 of the most expensive sub Liverpool ever paid for..

Pool 1 Marseille 0

Tough match, poor performance second half. We just completely gave the initiative to Marseille who like Atletico and a host of other visitors this season should have snatched a goal or beaten us.

Our recent performances have been weak to say the least even at home with Stevie G. Once again he saved us but so many of our players are underperforming.

a team cant improve on several aspects in a season. i know we r all anxious for liverpool to win the league, so as to shut the manure's fans mouths. but then again, they waited for 26 god-damn years. although most of these fans r fairweather fans who will come supporting liverpool when they win the league.

what i m saying is that liverpool have made inroads this season. beating chelsea and ending their stamford bridge run is phenomenal!!! take the time to take pride in it. i wouldnt call beating manure a big result as they fielded a mediocre team at anfield. but beating teams without torres and gerrard is something we can take heart to.

no team in the premiership is gonna roll over and play dead. it is expected. take the time to honour liverpool when they do well and support them when they r not doing so. if this year cannot win, then next year lor.

i m much older, now that i have to feed my son milk in the middle of the nite. but last nite, he watched liverpool with me.

liverpool and marseille somemore... in the 2nd half, i was rooting for marseille to bloody score and spit in rafa's face!!! can someone pls tell rafa to stop fielding people with the next few games in mind???!!! and he has the bloody cheek to say on tv that he takes 1 game at a time!!! pooi!!! the liverpool champions of the past really plays 1 game at a time!!!

dont they learn anything from history??? liverpool is about playing well... liverpool is not about winning trophies. liverpool is about fielding their strongest team and everyone tries their best on the field!!! m i wrong or did the values change during the years and i failed to pick it up? if i m not, then can someone tell me why the fuck was torres playing??? he was obviously not interested in playing!!! cannot score nevermind, dont even help pressurise the defenders... KNN, fucking act like christina ronaldo. pooi!!!

Ooi why so hot bro? Relax lah. Did we field a weakened team? And why so much anger against Torres. He was one of the brighter lights yesterday I thought. He had also just come back from a niggling hamstring injury so I would be happy if he didn't tweak it again chasing a loose ball.

Feed your kid, that doesn't sound very old leh. Maybe we same age or even I older than you

Arrow You will never kelong alone

Steven Gerrard celebrated his return from injury by firing Liverpool into the knockout stages of the Champions League with a 1-0 win over Marseille here on Wednesday.

The Liverpool captain's first-half header from Xabi Alonso's cross proved enough to secure a victory over opponents who deserved better from a display every bit as spirited as the one that had seen them become the first French club to win at Anfield 13 months ago.

"We'll have a few regrets because we had chances up to the last minute but the only thing that makes me unhappy was the result," said Marseille coach Erik Gerets.

"I was quite happy with the performance. For the first time in a long time, we played as a unit and with the kind of desire that everyone said we were missing."

Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez admitted his side had lived dangerously at times. "It was a strange game. We were controlling the game and then we scored and they started to attack us.

"We were trying to play on the counter attack with Fernando Torres but our final ball was never good enough to hurt them. The game was too open against a team with pace and ability. But the important thing is we won and we are qualified."

Liverpool's Brazilian defender Fabio Aurelio (L) vies with Olympique de Marseille's Ivorian forward Bakari Kone during their UEFA Champions League group D football match in Liverpool. Liverpool won 1-0.
Ultimately it was the sloppy marking that allowed Gerrard to claim his fifth goal in as many games in this season's competition that snuffed out Marseille's last chance of progress to the last 16.

But Gerets' men could also count themselves unfortunate not to have enjoyed the breaks that would have enabled them to capitalise on a string of good chances as they put Liverpool under intense pressure after the interval.

It was a night of milestones for Benitez. His 66th European match in charge of the club eclipsed Bill Shankly's record while a 39th victory on the European stage saw him draw level with Bob Paisley on that count.

The Spaniard, though, could scarcely have been satisfied with another lacklustre display from his side which, even with Gerrard returning at the expense of Robbie Keane, lacked the attacking intensity he had promised in the wake of Saturday's sluggish display against Fulham.

Marseille were fortunate not to be punished in the opening minutes when Dirk Kuyt charged down Taye Taiwo's attempted clearance, the Dutchman failing to pick out Torres with his cross, and Daniel Agger's long-range strike required Steve Mandanda to make his first save of the evening.

Liverpool's Spanish forward Fernando Torres runs with the ball during their UEFA Champions League group D football match against Olympique de Marseille at Anfield, in Liverpool. Liverpool won 1-0.
More than 20 minutes had elapsed before the visitors' goalkeeper was called into serious action however and he did well to block Kuyt's header at close range after Torres had skipped past Vitorino Hilton on the right of the box.

Marseille failed to clear their lines and they paid the price less than a minute later after Alvaro Arbeloa sent Alonso overlapping down the right.

The Spanish midfielder's first-time cross was struck with his customary precision over a Marseille defence that had neglected to pick up Gerrard lurking beyond the back post.

Unchecked, the England midfielder was able to advance to the edge of the six-yard area before powering a header past Mandanda's right hand.

Marseille's best moment of the opening period came ten minutes before the break, when Taye Taiwo's skidding freekick forced Jose Reina to get down smartly at his left-hand post.

Liverpool's goalkeeper appeared less accomplished as he flapped at the resulting corner and was relieved to see Ronald Zubar head wide from a tight angle.

A rare right foot effort from Albert Riera drew another stop from Mandanda in first-half stoppage time.

But Liverpool were far from comfortable and could count themselves fortunate that Mamadou Niang's boot swiped at clean air when the Marseille striker got clear in the penalty area shortly after the restart.

Minutes later, the Senegal striker turned Jamie Carragher 40 yards out but, with a clear run at goal, opted to shoot too early and his effort failed to trouble Reina.

The trickery of Hatem Ben Arfa on the right was also giving Liverpool problems and the France midfielder came agonisingly close to equalising midway through the half with a beautifully struck free-kick from the corner of the box that drew an equally pleasing fingertips save from Reina.

A slip by Agger then presented Niang with a sight of goal but the Danish defender's blushes were spared by substitute Andrea Dossena, who threw his body into the line of fire for an important block on what was to prove Marseille's last clear-cut chance of an equaliser.

This is Anfield. You will never kelong alone

my same sentiments bro, when i saw d results this morning. once again, Stevie G bailed Pool out. when he did nt play last Sat, we dropped 2 pts agt lowly fulham. we cant depend on him too often ... if he retires in a couple of yrs time, wat will happen to Pool? close shop n become a mid table team???
