Reto Ziegler has agreed to join Italian side Sampdoria on a permanent transfer from Tottenham following his loan move last season. The 21-year-old Switzerland left-back was the last remaining player signed during Jacques Santini's spell in charge before Martin Jol took over as boss in 2004. 'I feel good at Sampdoria,' said Ziegler, who failed to break into the team under Dutchman Jol. 'This is the right club for me to improve as a player.' Despite struggling for cover at left-back last season, Ziegler was allowed to leave for Serie A, and Jol has brought Gareth Bale in a £10million deal from Southampton since. Jol also wants to strengthen the left side of his midfield but a move for Christian Wilhelmsson from Nantes appears remote as the Sweden international's agent is negotiating with Roma. Fabio Alho told Sportbladet: 'We are still doing everything we can to stay with Roma. 'We are still negotiating in order to reach a deal so for the moment we are not talking to other clubs.' Meanwhile, Czech Republic youngster Tomas Pekhart appears set to stay at White Hart Lane rather than go on loan next season. The 18-year-old striker said: 'When there were some discussions, they said that they would not release me as they were preparing me for first-team football, so I hope I will get a chance.' Pekhart signed a year ago from Slavia Prague and has played for the academy and the reserves. there goes a leftie... i saw wilhelmsson play for roma during the season, i hope i'm right to say he was on loan to them. his skills so so only lay... |

Re: Tottenham Hotspur - the Pride of London
Hola. Well, Willhemson is highly rated in Sweden, but I reckon rather than signing him up, might as well go for Bakircioglu..like Sjnider, he could play anywhere in MF and I reckon he is a better player than Willhelmson. Both are Swede and Swedes produce very good Wingers, apart from Volvo, IKEA, Abba and gorgous busty babes! e.g Limpar, Ljunberg etc..Gosh, both played for the gonners!
We are also rumoured to sign both SWP and Diarra from Chelski with a combined fee of 18mil. I dont see it as a good deal coz why must we sign SWP if we got Lennon? Does this mean Lennon will have to play on the left to accomadate SWP? And Diarra? Is he any better than Zokora? Might as well sign Makelele as he wont feature regularly for Chelski as Mourinho would opt for Essien. Nevermind his age, I still think Makelele, at 35, can still do the dirty work. Or better still, dont sign a holding MF...give Hudds a chance or play Ledders there. Oh...another one...I hope this isnt true tho...Hudds is beng linked with Reading! I think that Hudds is vital for our development so its not the right thing to let him go as yet. Let Jenas leave...I think he is not SPURS standard. To me, he is about the same standard as our old players like Vinny Samways, Davd Howells, Moussa Saib, Nicola Berti, Allan Nielsen etc. Pekhart is a good player. Saw him play once in a reserve game at Loftus Road and he scored 4 goals and Lee Barnard scored a hattrick in a 7-2 win against QPR Reserve in a freindly. I enjoy going to reserve matches as it is much much cheaper and sometimes we get to see recovering players play. Tickets are just 5pounds to 12 pounds, compared to a whopping 35pounds for a ticket in an EPL game! |

Re: Tottenham Hotspur - the Pride of London
Ahh.... memories....................
Allan Nielsen scored the winner for us in the league cup final against Leicester... David Howells.... when we play against Saints.... He was playing as a goalie for them because they have ran out of keepers. Did we ever have a decent CM before? Probably in the 1990s..... or earlier on.... the likes of Hoddle, Chris Waddle, Gazza.... Another young lad that left us this morning...... Mark Yeates.... I do hope wayne routledge will stay though... |

Spurs swoop for Auxerre defender Kaboul
Tottenham have announced the signing of France Under-21 defender Younes Kaboul from Auxerre. Spurs fought off competition elsewhere in Europe to sign the 21-year-old, who was rated at around £8million. The signing takes the club's expenditure to over £30million following the arrivals of Gareth Bale and Darren Bent at White Hart Lane so far this summer. 'Younes possesses power, great pace and is good on the ball and strong in the air,' said sporting director Damien Comolli. 'He is a good leader who showed a great desire to come to us despite interest and offers from numerous other clubs.' Kaboul is a centre-back who will compete with Michael Dawson and Ledley King for a place in the starting XI, with skipper King currently recovering from knee surgery and facing a race to be fit for the new season. King's injuries last season led to Dawson playing in all but one of Spurs' games in the last campaign, leading to Comolli starting the search for cover. 'From day one he said 'I want to play for Spurs' and his personality made a big impression on Martin and myself,' added Comolli. 'He has been a regular in the Auxerre first team for the past two seasons and is an excellent signing.' The transfer maintains Spurs' policy of signing young talent. Boss Martin Jol added: 'If you ask people in France who is seen as the hottest prospect in defence, they will say Younes Kaboul. 'We are very happy to have him on board. It's important to have quality players in defence and, with Younes, we have that.' so now, with Kaboul acquisition we need a good left midfield or an out and out left winger! |

Re: Tottenham Hotspur - the Pride of London
Hi mateys,
I'm really happy to see Kaboul at the Lane. I've heard so much about this fellow.... hehe... he is such a solid defender (even in the game Football manager ) .... Ledley is good... but still recovering from his knee injury... Forget about Rocha and Gardner... they look so vulnerable. It has been a long time that we've been so active in the transfer market since Alan Sugar days.... and all these purchases.... are value investment. They are all young and bright stars to be.... It is gonna be an exciting season for us..... Glenn Ong (Class95) writes us off.... at least FD still feel something special about us.......... COYS!! |

From the look of it, I dun think Jol will bring in Barnard. For me, he needs to be given a chance. Learn from mistakes, Spurs managers,...we had the likes of Greame Souness and Peter Crouch in our youth ranks but let them leave without giving them chance. Souness turned up to be a world class ball winner (and a very intimidating moustache) and Crouchy, well crouchy....lets just say he is tall enough to actually reach a high ball and do a bicycle kick!...ooh...that chopstick legs arent so sexy, aint it??? |

Re: Tottenham Hotspur - the Pride of London
Expectations will be high for Spurs this coming season. Big money transfers on 2 defenders and a striker. The fight for CL spots will be interesting. Cant wait for the season to start.

Re: Tottenham Hotspur - the Pride of London
Despite signing kaboul, we are again linked with Curtis Davies! Oh no....Not to say that he is not a good player, but I think this bloke is slightly over-priced.. I mean 10 mil for someone who only played 2 seasons in the EPL? Also, does this means we will have to offload one of the CB? We have Ledders, Dawson, Kaboul, Rocha, Gardner, Dervitte....plus some other youth players. I dunno man, I think Jol should stop spending on defenders (eventho we were in need of a plumber last season). We have a nice set of players already = RB-Chimbo, Stalteri, Ifill. LB- Lee, Bale, Assou-Ekotto...CB= as stated. We need an all out left midfielder! Cant we just ask Ginola to get fit and play for us again,????
