Re: Liverpool Fc @ Anfield - Reds Supporters Gatherings
Battling display. It's a performance that is quite similar to the game versus Stoke (full of hunger and running). To beat the 4th placed team in the quest for 4th place is always a good result. Aquilani looks good. Hope Maxi settles in faster. Deegen's not bad, if only he shot more. Wasted man... Glad Kuyt got 2 goals (he should have had 5 goals).
At least I didn't waste my sleep today.

Re: Liverpool Fc @ Anfield - Reds Supporters Gatherings
I must say I am proud of our team tonight.
Kuyt led the line superbly and despite missing some easy chances deserved the clinching goal. Lots of nerve in taking and then retaking the penalty. AA was good in the link up and showing a lot of promise. Credit to the defence and Reina - with Skrtel and Kyrg, we have more presence at the back. This must be the way forward now - no superstars for one month, the team has got to work like one. Well deserved win. |

Didnt watch the game until the last 7min.. Cant wake up!
But I like what I saw, especially when the team is really wacking Spurs despite mins to go, leading by a goal.. The desire to kill the game off really impressed me... Nonetheless, its a great result, clean sheet (no last min goal let in )... Plus this weekend is off for us, giving the injuried players more time to recover!!!

finally there's something to cheer abt..
not the best performance, but it'a a hard fought victory... the defense played well.. esp Kyrg, he won everything in the air.. carragher defended well and put in few good crosses too.. although he can dribble, but this guy can cross... riera made the midfield more balance.. rest of midfireld battled hard.. well done & keep it up...!!!! ~YNWA~~

Re: Liverpool Fc @ Anfield - Reds Supporters Gatherings
Hi bros, I am ever so pleased that at least there is something to cheer about after the 2-0 win over Spurs early this morning. Hopefully, this will give the entire team a big lift and they can go on from strength to strength and get the necessary wins and good results in the remaining games so that we will secure fourth and be in the Champions League next season.
Credit where its due, I thought Rafa got his tactics spot on by playing Kuyt at centre-forward, instead of sticking him out wide on the right. Credit to Kuyt too for his usual harworking display. He is indeed so much more effective in his natural position as centre-forward where he can bash himself about against the Spurs backline and create a nuisance of himself to put them off their defending. True enough, his display came with the reward of the double strike to secure all three points. I really hope that Rafa will continue to leave Kuyt to play there regularly, at least until Torres returns!! I would also like to see Rafa start the next match with Maxi Rodriguez on the right wing and Albert Riera on the left wing so that we will have more width and balance going forward in attack. For now, with Gerrard injured, there is little choice but to stick with Lucas Leiva to partner Mascherano in the centre of the park. Also, with Johnson similarly injured, I wouldn't change Carragher at right back as he is as always solid in defence and ever dependable. I think Kyrgiakos and Skrtel had a fine match last night as well and since they are are doing well in their partnership at the centre of defence, I would not want to tinker too much there and change things when it is going well. I hope Rafa shares the same thoughts as me for the next game, which is away to Wolves this Saturday. As usual, I worry about his tinkering and squad rotation, which in my view is not always necessary and has proved to be ineffective on many occasions thus far. My own view is that for as long as you play with your eleven best players you have at hand at any one time and they are doing well for you, why impose changes. In short, if it ain't broke, don't attempt to fix it! Hence, with the injuries to the first team regulars we've got right now (no Gerrard, Torres, Benayoun and Johnson) my starting eleven for this coming Saturday's away game against Wolves would be (formation 4-4-1-1) :-- Reina Carragher-Skertel-Kyrgiakos-Insua Rodriguez-Mascherano-Leiva-Riera Aquilani Kuyt My subs would be:-- Diego-Agger-Aurelio-Degen-Babel-Ngog-Darby (or Spearing). Any bros have other suggestions on the formation and players for this Saturday's upcoming away game against Wolves? |

Agreed, the balance is key. I agree with Riera and Maxi on the flanks (to be honest, Degen has done extremely well for a free transfer - how many freekicks has he won?) |

indeed. that was Mr ever dependable carragher. the kop applauded the effort. although he did seem a bit winded after that run.. as he's getting up in ages.. but i still feel maybe rafa could have stuck to last season's defensive concentration instead of focusing on attack. Which in turn leads to many goals conceded this year and thus more draws and defeats. BUt again who am i to say our big boss?? lets keep the momentum going this sat ..

Even up to the 90th min, before Kuyt scored his penalty, I can't be sure it won't be a draw like at Stoke. Very exciting match. If Spurs had scored, the headlines would have been on our missed chances. A lot of the shots on target are the result of a lot of flowing moves on our side. Ngog should have scored a beauty. Riera had a few headers. Deegen should have been more selfish etc. I'm worried about Kuyt leading the line though. He may not have the legs to play 90 mins for every match till Torres returns. He looks so tired last night. I was watching Football Focus with John Dykes and Shebby Singh was moaning about how we played Deegen (a defender) at right midfield at Stoke. He says Rafa is negative and blah blah blah without using his brain. 1 commentator (don't know who but seemed very close to Rafa) replied something to the content of 'Did you see the players on Liverpool's bench in that game?' There wasn't any fit right midfielder in Liverpool. Gerrard and Benyanoun are injured. Kuyt is playing upfront. It's Maxi's first game. Who else is there? Can see Shebby shutting up. I think we are really getting a lot of baseless criticisms this season.

I thought Degen has been a very interesting option at right midfield and is slowly growing into his role. How many times has he been fouled against? And his attitude is always spot on. All of us were disappointed when he missed the first season with injuries. But hopefully now he can stake a claim to the team as backup to Kuyt or Maxi. |

i have to say degen impressed in the game but i cant say if he can make more impact and contribution to the team in that role... unless rafa decides to drop lucas once SG, FT & YB recovers from their injuries. Hate to see rafa revert back to his very 'standard' lineup.. even degen is playing , this shows that babel is really finished at liverpool..

Re: Liverpool Fc @ Anfield - Reds Supporters Gatherings
every game in the EPL is a CUP FINAL match 2 The Reds.
U don't play 4 anything less than a win in a CUP FINAL. Next cup final match - 26/1 away against Wolves. |
