Re: My attempt at sharing my experiences...
We reached the area and parked in the multi-story car park before heading to the coffeeshop for a quick breakfast. I wondered what kind of adrenaline Jason was running on as I was extremely fatigued. I did not know if I even had the energy to stop him in case things got out of hand.
As we tucked into our kaya toast and eggs, I asked him what he intended to do. J: I called his sister. She'll meet us. Me: She's ok with us beating him up? J: You'll see. After around twenty minutes, Matthew's sister showed up. She was tall, slim, bespectacled with short cropped hair and had a somewhat sultry look. She wore a cardigan and denim shorts. She looked to be in her early or mid-thirties. If we were not there to confront her brother, I would have definitely felt that she was bangable. Her name was Melissa. Mel: Hello Jason. J: Hello Jie. So apparently there was something going on between them. J: Mel, enigma, enigma, Mel. She extended her hand which was pretty toned, and took mine in a firm handshake. Mel: Hello. J: Mel's a senior at the church. She's had a colorful history. Me: I don't get it. Mel: What he means is, I used to do what you're gonna do to my brother. Me: Huh? She rolled up her sleeves and revealed two armfuls of tattoos. Mel: As you can see, I'm the child who misbehaved, while Matthew was the good one. Me: So you used to be a gangster? Or gangstress? Mel: Maybe. But that's all in the past. Me: So why are you letting us beat up your brother? Mel: Let's just say that he's gotten away with lots of things in his life. I've known Jason and Jenny since they were kids, and I'm very disappointed in Matthew for what he did. But my parents won't be able to accept the fact that he did something like this. They know Jenny too. Me: How would you explain him getting beat up? Mel: I don't have to. He will finally have to explain it himself. And knowing him, he will probably cook up some sad story and get my parents sympathy again. Me: You've got a strange sense of justice. Just like Jason. Mel: Matthew won't have the balls to report this to the police. And the police may not take action against him unless Jenny files a report. Just don't kill or severely injure him. Me: That's not my call. This still feels wrong. Mel: Just rough him up a little. Show him that he can't get away with such things. Me: So why don't you do it? Mel: Me? Haha. 20 years ago, if he did such a thing to my "sisters", he would probably be castrated by me personally. Same goes for any other guy who does such a thing. I'm different now. Me: This isn't really my fight. And neither is it Jason's. Mel: I'm not one to stand in the way of an angry brother. I don't know how well you know Jason, but he's very protective of Jenny. Me: Hasn't seemed like it ever since I knew him. Mel: He would beat up the other kids in the church playground if they pushed Jenny off the swing, or stole her toys or whatever. Which was why he was sent to me. I looked at Jason. He merely gave me a goofy grin. Mel: I'll be nearby. Watching. Me: Whatever for? Mel: Someone needs to drag him home crying to his mommy right? Me: Right. Mel: Well, anyway, he hasn't been home a lot recently, and some friends of mine say he's been mixing with the wrong company. Me: You mean like secret societies? Mel: Secret societies don't exist anymore. Not the real ones anyway. What we have nowadays are wannabes. I recalled the three goons I encountered earlier in the morning. Mel: Dispute settlements are mostly a private affair, and we definitely don't go around beating people up because they stared, come from rival gangs or we don't like their face. Me: Are you still involved? Mel: Nope. I'm involved in the rehabilitation of wayward youth now. Me: So why didn't you help your brother? Mel: He doesn't need my help. He's smart enough to know right from wrong but chooses to accept responsibility for his wrongs. He's beyond help. Me: Maybe a psychiatrist? Mel: Maybe. But we'll see if he wakes up after this. Me: We aren't going to put him in a coma right? Mel: I meant figuratively. Me: Oh. Sometimes I really felt like a dumbass. J: There he is. Jason pointed to the traffic light. Matthew was crossing the street. He was still wearing what he wore when he committed his misdeed. J: Let's follow him. We finished our coffee and tailed him into the estate. Melissa followed closely behind. Matthew stopped at one of the blocks and greeted a few guys who were hanging around the void deck. I stopped Jason and pulled him back. Me: Fuck. Three of those guys were the ones who tried to find trouble with me. J: You mean he planned this from the start? Mel: Sure sounds like it. J: That's it. I'm gonna break his legs. Me: Look. It's two against 6 of them. You sure you wanna do this? As far as I can recall, Tekken fights are one on one. Mel: Wait. Look. It appears those guys are arguing with him. We looked. Me: Yeah. You're right. Mel: Looks like they aren't happy about something. J: What did you mean when you said they were finding trouble with you? Me: They asked why I stared at them. And wanted to fight. J: And? Me: I showed them why they shouldn't fight? Mel: Maybe he made some sort of deal with them to distract you but weren't expecting you to fight back? Me: Seems like it. We watched as the five of them surrounded Matthew and started pushing him around. A couple of residents who were strolling past the area suddenly started running away, as though they did not want to get caught in the melee. Me: Looks like he's about to get what he deserves. J: Well, ok. If you put it that way. Me: But I think we should help him. J: Are you mad? Have you forgotten what he did to Jenny? Me: It's not about that. I believe in justice. But this is quite absurd. Mel: I agree. I'm calling the cops. Me: Wait. Let me see if I can talk to them. J: Ok. You've officially gone insane. Me: Well, come with me if you want. I made my way over. Jason and Melissa followed reluctantly. |

Re: My attempt at sharing my experiences...
I approached the group. Perhaps I should get my balls checked. They seemed to be a little big for the situation. It was essential six on one, if they did not beat Matthew up but decide to take revenge on me instead.
As I got nearer, they stopped pushing him around and stared at me. The one whose balls were introduced to my foot whispered something to the others. There was a tall, skinny guy with bleached hair, loads of tattoos and earrings, smoking there. He looked vaguely familiar. He came up to me. The rest of them gathered around. I figured he must be their headman or something. Skinny Guy: Enigma? I tried to recall where I knew him from. SG: XXX Primary School? 6D? Me: Weiliang? WL: Wah! Long time no see man bro! How have you been? Weiliang was my classmate for 6 years in primary school. We were even in the same school bus for the first 3 years. I shook his hand. 1: Boss, he's the one. The dude whose balls I kicked interrupted us. Weiliang smacked him across the head. WL: Cheebye don't interrupt me when I'm talking. 1: Sorry sorry. WL: So you beat my men up? Me: Self-defense. WL: They deserved it. Jason and Melissa joined us. WL: Wah. You bring your own gang? He turned to Melissa. WL: Eh chio bu! Melissa: Chio bu your lan. She rolled up her sleeve. Suddenly he became all quiet. WL: Sorry bro. Don't know you so connected. Me: Let's talk. Matthew tried to leave but he was surrounded by Weiliang's men, Jason and Melissa. Matt: Jie! Help me! She merely glared at him. I took out a cigarette, offered one to Weiliang and we went to a corner to talk. WL: My men were asked by that konek to help him with something. Then something went wrong. Then someone beat them up. And you're that someone? Me: That konek is the chio bu's brother. WL: Real brother? Me: Real brother. He tried to rape that guys sister early this morning. I pointed to Jason. WL: Nabei! What? Me: I'm guessing your men didn't know? WL: They weren't even supposed to be there. I told them many times not our place cannot go. Me: So you're a real gangster? WL: No la. We are just a group of people who stick together. No trouble one. Just that some of my new guys temper bad. Me: Why did they even agree to help Matthew anyway? WL: Matthew si siang? Me: The konek. WL: Orh. He agree to pay them for help. Me: Help to do what? Rape my friends sister? WL: Nabei. No la. Say help look out in case anything happen. Say what he meeting his ex-girlfriend then her boyfriend very jealous type. You the boyfriend ah? Me: No. But why did they think it's me? WL: Dunno la. Maybe description or what la. Me: Your guy threatened me with a broken bottle. WL: Ka ni na. Which one? I pointed the stoner out. WL: Chao turtle. He die later. Me: So back to my point about gangsterism... WL: We not gangster la. Sompah. I teach him a lesson later. Me: Well, sorry for beating up your men. WL: They say you very zai. Like Ye Wen like that. Me: Who's Ye Wen? WL: Ip Man. You know? The Yong Chun guy. Me: Donnie Yen? WL: Not the actor la. The Kung Fu master. Me: Yes. I know. I saw the films. WL: Wah. Teach me leh. Me: Don't be crazy. I don't know Kung Fu. Only learnt some self-defense techniques in the army. WL: You still in army? Zhun bo? Sign on ah? Me: Yeah. So how do we settle this? WL: He don't want to pay. Say they never do their job. Me: Not my problem. WL: But my guys want to whack him for causing them trouble. Me: My friend also want to whack him for trying to rape his sister. WL: Wah. Like that easy what. We all whack him la! Me: Then the chio bu how? WL: Later I ask her go out lor. Buy her kopi. Me: That's not what I meant. You want to beat up her brother. WL: Nevermind la. Don't look like she want to stop us. Me: I would rather call the police. WL: Bro. Mai lai eh. You call police I die also. Me: Are you on the wanted list? WL: Simi list? Wa mai lim kopi with SSB. Me: Then don't be a gangster. WL: I already say I not gangster lah. Me: Then what are you afraid of? WL: Ka ni na. Never mind. Weiliang's guys eyed us impatiently. Perhaps they were waiting to beat someone up. He went back to the group and grabbed broken bottle guy by the shirt, forcing him to his knees in front of me, he shouted at the other two to kneel as well. WL: 道歉! Me: Basket. I'm not some mob boss. They looked extremely reluctant but did so anyway. I glanced at Melissa. She looked like she was about to burst out laughing. Me: Ok fine. Apology accepted. Matthew sensed an opportunity and turned to run. Mel: Stop right there! Jason went after him and the rest of us followed suit. Maybe Matthew was stupid or something but he ran up the stairs instead of out in the open where he would have had a higher chance of escaping or getting help from the general public. At the fifth floor, Matthew tried escaping through the corridor but stumbled and Jason pounced on him, rugby tackling him to the ground and started pummeling his back. As I pulled Jason off him, strangely, the only thing on my mind was the 9gag meme, "That escalated quickly.". Weiliang's men surrounded Matthew and started kicking him as well until he arrived and told them to stop. They dragged a bruised and bleeding Matthew to the stairwell and held him their. Melissa watched the proceedings with her arms folded. Matt: Jie! Help me please! She went up to him and slapped him hard, causing him to spit out blood. Mel: Did you need my help when you tried to rape Jenny? She turned to the gangsters. Mel: And you! All of you! Shame on you for helping him! They all bowed their heads and did not dare to meet her gaze. I was amazed by the power she wielded over them. Even Weiliang looked subdued. Eventually he apologized to her, and gathered his men before retreating down the stairs, leaving the four of us together. |

Quote:
Trump card? You mean Melissa or me knowing Weiliang? I'm assuming Melissa was a big-time gangster in her youth which was why she got the respect from Weiliang when she showed him her tattoo. As for me knowing Weiliang, I guess that was really lucky. |

Re: My attempt at sharing my experiences...
Jason went up to Matthew.
J: You piece of shit. I should kill you right now. Matt: Fuck you. Melissa slapped him again. Me: You better apologize to Jenny. Matt: Never! I'll never apologize to that whore! Jason clenched his fists. I grabbed him just in case. Matthew was in a pretty vulnerable position. An accurately placed blow could kill or severely injure him. Not that I was certain that Jason knew where to hit. But I could not take my chances. Another hard slap from Melissa caused Matthew to cough violently and eventually throw up, blood and some clear liquid pooling at his feet. Matt: Jie! Please! I need to go to the hospital. She threw fifty bucks at his feet. Mel: Take a taxi there yourself. Did you even consider the consequences when you did what you did to Jenny? Matt: She's a slut. This time, he really pissed me off and I struck him lightly with the heel of my palm at the side of his head. He groaned, swayed a bit and passed out. Mel: What the fuck?! Me: Don't worry. He'll be fine. Probably a very bad headache when he wakes up. But we should probably get him to the hospital. Mel: Don't think there's a need to. But could you help me drag him home? Me: Where's that? Mel: This block. 11th floor. J: So the coward was running home. Mel: I guess. Jason and I dragged Matthew into the lift and all the way to his doorstep. He had regained consciousness and was muttering unintelligibly. Melissa opened the door and let us in. Their mother gasped in shock. Mother: What happened?! Mel: Matthew got into some trouble with his new friends. Mother: Aiyah. Tell him don't mix with pai kia he don't listen. She went into the kitchen to get a towel and probably some ice. Matthew glared at us and looked as though he was about to protest. Mel: I dare you. I'll tell mom everything. He kept his mouth shut. Their mother returned. Mel: I'm going to visit a friend. Mother: Your brother like that you still go out? Mel: He deserved it. The three of us left the house. Me: So where are you going? Mel: To visit Jenny. Where is she? Me: She's at my place. J: You sure it's a good idea? Mel: I'm not my brother. J: Ok. We headed to the car park, got into my car and drove back. In all the excitement, I had forgotten to check my handphone, which was on silent mode. There were a couple of missed calls and a text from Shirley. S: Where the fuck are you? I'm bringing Jen to A&E. Still bleeding. I replied. Me: Sorry. Went to confront Jason. CGH? We're on our way. I informed Jason and Melissa and we got back into the car. We were two turns away from CGH when Shirley replied. S: KKH you dumbass. Crap. I filtered left and entered the PIE, heading towards the CTE. The traffic in the morning was relatively light and we reached there in twenty minutes. I called Shirley when we reached. Me: Where are you? S: 24hr Womens Clinic. Basement. Me: Ok. Be right over. Jason and Melissa waited outside while I went in to talk to them. Jenny was in a wheelchair, hugging one of Shirley's teddy bears. She looked at me and hugged the bear tighter. I looked at Shirley. Somehow, she looked a little sad. Me: How's everything? S: Waiting for her turn. Me: You seem a little distracted. S: Is there anyone else with you? Me: Jason and erm, Matthew's sister. S: Could you get them in? I need to talk to you outside. I signalled for them to come in. Jenny looked disturbed when Melissa approached her but let her take her hand anyway. Soon she was talking quietly to her, and it seemed that she had calmed down a lot. Perhaps Melissa really had some sort of power over people. Shirley and I proceeded to the area where the vending machines were. Me: Want anything? S: No. She sat down. I bought her a hot Milo and coffee for myself anyway. When I got back to her, she was tearing. I put the drinks down. Me: What's wrong? S: Kor! She pulled me towards her and started crying on my shoulder. I wondered what was wrong? Was she feeling the effects of Jenny's violation? That could not be the case. Then it hit me. We were in a Women's and Children's Hospital. She had lost her baby not long ago. This probably was not the best place for her to be at the point in time. What had I done? By bringing Jenny back I had inadvertently cause Shirley hurt in the form of sad memories and thoughts of what could have been. Surely the sight of new mothers walking around cradling their newborns was not a sight that she should be exposed to. I stroked her hair and tried telling her it would be alright. But I really did not know what to say in situations like this. Jason appeared and looked as though he wanted to talk to me but he saw me hugging Shirley and I waved him away. He went back to the clinic with a confused look on his face. S: Kor. I'm sorry. I thought I was stronger than this. Me: Shh. It's ok. There'll always be a next time. You're still young. S: No one wants me anymore. Not even you. Crap. Now I was in a fix. Not a very good way to spend the weekend. |
