Thank you, Reaper. Actually putting myself as not adventurous is a nicer way to say I am a coward. I dare not just go in and find out myself mainly due to
1. I cannot speak any Vietnamese language.
2. I only have limited budget.

I do not want to get myself into situation that is not expected. I will not know how to get out of it. That is why helpful people like you is very much appreciated.

well....we all started here without any knowledge of the language or scence here in HCMC. If my great friends and me didnt go out and venture, do you think this you will get this information?????

I suggest if you are not comfrotable, stay in an environment which you are. Its not about gettin gyourself into situations you dont expect. As long as you use common sense, you will be fine.

However, I do know that common sense is a very limited and precious commodity these days and I dont know why they call it "common sense"

Money Changer In Tan Son Nhat Airport

Here's a little suggestion for first time visitors to HCMC. Once exiting the airport customs. You'll see many travel agent and money changer counters. For the best rates walk all the way to your right. The counters on the far right will offer the best exchange rates in the airport. Change a little just enough for taxi fare or more if you fancy going to the nearby Parkson for shopping or hanging out at Superbowl. Then change more in the city as deem fit.

The best rates I found are still in the city area. Eg. Cho Ben Thanh.

Actually I keep wondering how much one is changing to keep looking for the BEST RATE of Forex exchange? If you are changing less than SGD1000 or its equivalent, does it justify for you to take the trip to go to the Goldshops that offer the "BEST RATE"?? Your time, Your Taxi fare, Your effort of walking around... etc.

Definitely I'd not travel a long distance to find a Gold Shop with the best rates unless I'm changing alot. I happen to stay in Cho Ben Thanh everytime when I'm in HCMC thereby my recommendation for the best rates are the Gold Shops around Cho Ben Thanh.

I am not the adventurous type so dare not explore. Thank you in advance.
Sorry, what's the location of SEVEN?

Thanks!

Re: Vietnam - HCM

I drove past the X-club location but did not notice its lights on, this on Friday night when it should have been open. I did notice there's some kind of club in the Metropole Hotel that I never noticed before.

It's just to keep us informed what is the best rate. It's purely up to individual where you want to change...the rates given here are just a guide so that you knew what is rate you are changing...

My point is the best rate might not even worth it when U factor in the effort getting there.

Even at SGD $1k, sometimes its not worth the effort. The differences like
VND50 - VND 200 which works out to an extra $5 - $20???

There in lies the problem, the rates posted here are a very very loose guide. They should actually check it out themselves. Sometimes Banks have higher rates or lower rates. BUt then, the difference is so nominal, i cant even be bothered. you do all the travelling etc etc and maybe you end up saving $5????

Actually the shop is at Le Quang Dinh, Dist. GV which is only 5 mins away from where I am staying. I did a Cut, Color, Hair-wash, Face Wash all for VND240,000. My Hair stylist is trained in Singapore and quite experienced.
