My friend told me that UOB in thailand does offer a resonable rate than other thai banks. The exchange rate of 2.3 was available 2days ago by UOB in Bkk. Maybe another good option for money exchange in Thailand. Cheers.

The banks' exchange rates, ATM withdrawals is more expensive than TT. I tink anyone can open bank account in Thailand with passport. There shouldn't be any problem TT money into Thai Bank account from anywhere (any country). Can't remember if Thai banks charge inward remittance fee / charges anot. It is normally the sending bank (outward remittance) that charges TT fees, commission, etc charges. Not sure if SG banks can perform TT / International Remittance over Internet Banking. Opening a SG bank account & giving the ATM card to the gal is 1 good logistics idea. Not sure what is the difference between debit card / ATM card though, as long as the card supports PLUS System ATM, and the overseas ATM machine oso support PLUS System, can withdraw liao. If u don't like POSB, then can consider using other banks in SG (as long as that bank's ATM card supports PLUS System). By the way, POSB still exist in SG? I thought it's been swallowed by DBS? Anyway, when I was in SG, I boycott POSB/DBS one. While I fully support UOB, because it's Chairman is my idol. I'm using a bank in another country, it's ATM supports PLUS System. I noticed tat the bank didn't impose any service charge when I make ATM withdrawals overseas, unless I do it more than 3 times in a week or something like tat (can't really remember). At that time, the charge is about SGD 5 per withdrawal. As I said b4, I can make overseas TT instructions using Internet Banking, the receiving bank (in Asia) receives the money at the end of same day. That bank's exchange rate is better than SG's (by comparing with USD, EUR & SGD). Charges for TT / remittance via Internet Banking is about SGD 20 per transaction. Thai ATMs have a limit of 20k or 25k THB per withdrawal, maximum of 3 withdrawals per day, so depending on how much I need, I'll see which is cheaper, PLUS System ATM withdrawal, or TT fees. Taking into account that banks' exchange rates is better for TT, less attractive for ATM withdrawals. Hope the info helps.

Re: thai baht rate update
Yup 84gunners' right.
BTW not much difference btwn a ATM and a debit card , what im refering to is as long u have a card tt has the cirrus or plus sign, and give it to ur gf lo. it makes things way more convienient. just log on internet banking, no matter u are UOB/DBS/CITIBANK/HSBC or wadever, u can always interbank if ur account differs, otherwise it's instant and u save the hassle of going to Goldenmile. I'm sure the GFs wont mind a 120baht surcharge when they are getting "free" money , if they complain, u know it;s time to change the girlfreind LOL

Thanks to bros 84Gunner & vmtech for input of info.....bottomline after considering I think the most hassle free & cheap way is to give tirak sponsee a Singapore bank debit card.
