Chapter 0: The Little Red Dot

When Singapore was handed over to the British East India Company in 1819, the Sultan of Johor and his descendants could never have imagined how successful this little island would become under British rule.

So successful, in fact, that even a small trading ship from Japan found its way to its shores.

The vibrant island, full of life and opportunity, captivated a Japanese man from the ship. People called him Mr Tanaka.

While the rest of his crew sailed back home, Tanaka decided to stay. Embracing Singapore's diverse culture, he learned the local languages and married a Cantonese lady, and eventually getting a shophouse in Chinatown as his new home.

Soon after, the couple had a son.

This was 18 years before Tanaka’s countrymen arrived with arms to seize the island from the British and renamed it Syonan-to.

Time flew by. 18 years later, Chinatown hummed with its usual vigour.

Only a few people in Chinatown still remembered the Japanese origins of this family.

For most, it was easy to forget, as the father, the wife, and their son all spoke flawless Cantonese and other local languages now, blending seamlessly into the vibrant community around them.

Instead, the family was more memorable for another fact. The fact that the wife had become so physically blessed after giving birth.

Despite adopting a Japanese name upon marriage, she was never called by it in Chinatown. Her original name stuck, the people still called her by her original Chinese name, Mei Lian.

But, she had also earned a nickname among the Hokkien men around her. They called her Dua Neh Bu.

After giving birth, her body had truly blossomed into an erotic spectacle. Her breasts, became full and voluptuous, constantly strained against the fabric of her clothes, drawing every eye in Chinatown. Her curves turned heads and stirred desires, igniting the fantasies of every man who laid eyes on her.

Rude and vulgar men would stroke their cocks openly in the public whenever they saw Mei Lian walked by the streets, often times it was to fetch water back to her home from the public standpipe or a nearby community well.

Young teen boys would also be mesmerised by Mei Lian’s large and bouncy breasts, swinging under her clothes as she walked.

Things seemed as normal as they could be, despite the rumours whispered by the more concerned and educated men in this part of the Chinatown.

“Malaya has fallen, the Japs are now in Johor,” a men uttered as he read the newspaper, voice heavy with concern.

“Relax lah, trust the Ang Moh,” another man chirped while lighting up a cigarette.

While life carried on in Chinatown with an almost careless ease, across the sea in Johor, the harsh realities of war were already sinking their teeth into Malaya's people.

Across the sea, in Johor.

Surrounded by rubber plantations, there was a small discreet Chinese kampung. Unfortunately, it was being ransacked at the moment.


Inside one of the huts, a Chinese man was struck down by a katana. He was dead before hitting the floor and falling into two pieces.

His wife and daughter shrieked, screamed and cried.

“Which one do you prefer, Sato san?” The shorter Japanese man asked the tall squad leader, his tone full of polite and respect.

The menacing and tall squad leader wiped the blood off his katana and then slowly pushed it into the sheath that was tied to the side of his waist.

His intense stare at the two crying women was cold enough to send a shiver down any man’s spine.

“I want both of them,” Sato smirked and announced.

He already can’t wait to march into Singapore next week.
