Definitely not agree to whatever terms she requested.

So I need to get a lawyer too or just discuss the terms
together with her lawyer?

Every details shall be discuss before separation, then divorce, right?
Money matters, property and my child's custody...

Experience brothers please advise. And any lawyer to recommend?
What is the cost like?
if money is not an issue with you, get your own lawyer

else, go to ONE lawyer and get it ironed out. discuss with your ex-to-be and the terms/conditions. chances are there's going to be alot of No-this and No-that. if all negoiations failed, then get your own lawyer.

Priority MUST go to the children/s involved cos end of the day both you and ex-to-be will move on, but the children won't.

I hope it works out for both parties, good luck.

And make sure you choose your lawyer carefully.

I was having tea break at South Bridge road cafe last thursday when suddenly the cafe was swamped by several lawyers who had finished a meeting at the Law Society premises nearby. The cafe filled up and one elderly lawyer asked to share my table.... ok with me and soon we were having TCSS. I learnt from him that there are certain influential lawyers who are "feared" by the Family Court judges and they will always lean in favour of these lawyers in their judgments. If you have the money, try to engage these lawyers to fight your case.

It is best to have an amicable divorce.... less stress on everybody involved and easy on the pocket. The worst divorces are those acrimonious ones.

Re: All you need to know about "Marriage/Divorce" under the SG Law

Hi All,

Apology but i need some advises and help here. My wife and i has been living separately from each other for about 2 years. During this period, i fall in love with another lady and is co-habiting. Recently, me and my gf found out she is pregnant.

Below are some details:
- OC and i do not have kids
- Was actually waiting for 3 years to proceed with the divorce
- No separation deed was done
- OC and i do not keep in contact for 1.5 years

My questions is
- Is it illegal for my kid to be born from my gf before the divorce take place?
- My gf is ok in putting the marriage on hold till the divorce is done, but not sure if that can be done.
- Any advises on the next course of action?

Thanks again guys for helping me on the questions.

Re: All you need to know about "Marriage/Divorce" under the SG Law

Dear brothers,

I need some advice.

My wife has already find a lawyer to file divorce.
Her lawyer is requesting to meet and draft out the papers.
So she wants to discuss with me on the terms and conditions before
Meeting the lawyer.

Actually she has already state her terms and condition and is expecting
Me to agree to them.

Terms like surrendering my son's custody and ownership of our HDB flat.
I tried to reason with her that it is best for my son under my care but
she got so work up and refuse to listen to my analysis.

Now she wanna discuss on the terms again. Wat shall I do now?

I am unable to communicate with her and she always get so work up,
end up nothing is discussed and she assume I agree to all her terms.

Can I get a third party to talk to her? Like family consultants or counsellor?
Lawyer is a bit expensive. Can I single party go to family counsellor for help?
Because she never listen to me if I ask her to see a counsellor.

She wanna settle everything her way and claim we still can be friends after
that. And will not affect my work.
But if I choose to fight for my sons custody, things will get ugly.

I feel like she is threatening me and my career when she say that.
(Due to recent got one case the wife exposed the husband's affair with his subdinates to all his colleagues. End up the husband was force to resign).
Ofcos I dun have such things for her to expose.

Pls advise.

bro, please take my advice with a pinch of salt. I am not you and its personally, my own pov. Since she has a lawyer,Iam sure the lawyer asked her to do this so as to reduce the cost of the legal fees (or some other reasons idk). Now that she has a lawyer, my advice is for you to get one too.

Look at the fact, when you talk to her, its just vocal. there is nothing legal about it and the fact that she can "deny" that they said this and that later on. My best bet for you is to find a lawyer before doing any other thing. do not sign on any paper and all. If best, do a recording of the conversation that you had with your wife. It may or may not be the good evidence to you. Let the lawyer decide on how to fight it as its their professionalism.

I hope you understand where I come from .

Re: All you need to know about "Marriage/Divorce" under the SG Law

you dont have to agree to all her demands.
however it will be good for you to meet up with her lawyer to sort things out..you dont want the lawyer to go knocking on your doors do you?

if you are not familiar with the law then my advice will be to get a lawyer esp now that it is clear that it will be contested.

Don't tell me you really believe that you can still remain as friends even if you settle the whole matter amicably with her? Bro hell hath no fury like a woman scorn...believe me, I never knew or even thought for a moment my ex-oc was the vengeful type till we divorce...she literally send me to the cleaners and hung me out to dry...

Since she has already engaged a lawyer, there's no point going for counselling now as most probably her lawyer have already drafted the strategy for her to fight this divorce. Do not be taken in by her words or threats and go get a lawyer for yourself otherwise you will end up very badly on the losing end. Now is not the time to worry about costs, money need to be spent then no choice must spend.

You mean she earns living by laying on others like a pros?

I think even marriage registered elsewhere still can file for divorce locally, my ex biz partner was a prc and he filed for divorce from his oc even though they registered there but in the end he got lembek and back out...

so that means that the girl never stay with the guy at all after marriage ? in this case, can call for abolishment but i am not sure that there is such thing in china. to what i know is no,...

you no need to divorce, my idea is to file a suit to claim that the guy is missing and ask the court to abolish the marreiage in china. she do not need todo anything in singapore for their marriage is not in sg.
