Currently suffering from Urinary Tract Infection (UTI).
Given 5 days of Antibiotics. My question is how long will it take to recover and will UTI cause backaches and thigh muscle aches/pain? Any do/don't to take note? |

Re: Urinary Tract Infection (UTI)
Just finish your antibiotics and keep your dear brother clean for a week. I don't think it will cause backache or thigh ache, best to really rest for a few days. Drink lots of water and eat lots of fruits. Hope you get well soon man.

Re: Urinary Tract Infection (UTI)
Yes... UTI will cause backache once the virus/bacteria start to infect the kidney.
Other symptoms include feverish, fatigue, and constant urge to urinate. |

Re: Urinary Tract Infection (UTI)
It is not common for men to have UTI. As a rule, men are allowed to have one episode of UTI in their lives. This we can just assume it is due to an ascending infection i.e. bacteria crawling up from the skin into the bladder.
However, if a man has a second episode of UTI, we need to exclude secondary causes like stones and prostate infection. If it is an uncomplicated cystitis, 3 days of antibiotics is generally enough. Most doctors will given 5 days because of kiasu-ness. I do too. Drink lots of water to help flush the bacteria out. And yes, cranberry juice does help too. UTIs are NOT sexually transmitted. However, in women, UTI can frequently occur after sex because during intercourse, bacteria from the skin is pushed up into their bladder. That is why the usual advice for women is to urinate immediately after sex to clear out the bacteria. |
