Spring cleaning literally refers to the cleaning of the entire place, clearing old stuff out to allow for new stuff.

Depends on how it was said, if a gal said to you she need to do a spring cleaning, means she will kick some lousy guys away and retain only those better ones. She got no time for everyone..

spring cleaning means to have thorough cleaning. usually refers to house. people usually do spring cleaning before the spring festival - aka chinese new year.

your gf may be really doing her house-cleaning with the guy friend helping her. don't be too overly suspicious especially she was the one who informed you.
