Another held over fatal shooting

CUSTOMS OFFICER'S KILLING: Car parts dealer picked up on Tuesday

KUALA LUMPUR: POLICE have arrested a second suspect to facilitate investigations into the murder of Customs deputy director-general II Datuk Shaharuddin Ibrahim.

City Criminal Investigation Department chief Datuk Ku Chin Wah said the 37-year-old man from Kedah was picked up in the city on Tuesday afternoon.

"Investigations revealed that the man was a car spare parts dealer," he told reporters yesterday.

Ku added that police had two strong leads but declined to elaborate.

"This investigation will take time but we are confident that we will get our man."

On Saturday, a 56-year-old man, said to be an agent for a freight forwarding company, was nabbed in Petaling Jaya.

Police said there was no link between the two suspects.

On April 26, two men on a motorcycle fired three shots at Shaharuddin, who was inside a four-wheel-drive vehicle that was taking him to his office in Putrajaya.

He succumbed to his injuries an hour later at the Putrajaya Hospital.

The 58-year-old, who was in charge of the Customs internal tax unit, was dubbed "Mr Clean" by his staff for his no-nonsense approach to enforcement.

He had led several operations and crippled drug syndicates.

Police and Customs had conducted separate investigations into the murder.

To date, more than 35 people have been questioned in connection with the case, including Customs officers and several members of the public
