Background Story: Animal Activists appeal for Information on Cat which was found cut in half
SPCA Singapore has concluded its own investigation into the case of the cat which was found cut in half and abandoned on a grass patch along Marine Crescent.
SPCA had possession of the carcass and was conducting a post mortem, they concluded that it was the doing of dogs and not humans:
SPCA was alerted to a cat that was found to be in parts, in Marine Crescent, just yesterday evening (Oct 28, 2014).
We have, since, brought the cat's carcass to SPCA's premises, and our vets have conducted a thorough investigation of it. We have arrived at the finding that the cat's state has been wrought by the action of dogs from the community, and are ruling out the cat's condition being caused by sole human agency.
We have also sent the carcass to the AVA for an independent post-mortem.
We will post an update once we have derived the AVA's findings. We thank our informers for having alerted SPCA and the police to the cat's state.

However, despite SPCA’s claims, many netizens are skeptical and believe that what they say is not true. The comments on the SPCA staus update show many negative comments from people who believe that dogs could not have caused such a clean cut:

  • Raja Cardiérre Wow! dog got parang can clean cut like that. Pls show the picture again ..so people can decide whether dogs or human......

  • Mabel Wong I hope they can stop blaming the stray dogs...how can.there be no teeth marks injury and the cut is so.precise and clean and straight...impossible by a pack of dogs...unless now.dogs knows how to hold knife and fork to eat...

  • Snowy Tan The feeder in this area said that a cat was thrown down from high floor at this same area not long ago. How can it be the work of dogs?! Have you spoken to the feeder?

  • Cherie Ter SPCA, of all agencies in singapore, you are one that will at least make a better judgement call. Do your checks again, it's impossible for dogs to do this. Or is this an excuse for AVA to do more culling? Amazing how our country can blame this work on animals who are unable to defend themselves

However, others supported SPCA's findings and pointed out that it's impossible to see from just photos:

  • Weng Yan Nash It's not up to 'people' to decide from looking at the photo. Different circumstances can result in different injuries. let the professionals make their own diagnosis. Who are the keyboard warriors to diagnose the cause of death based on their (often limited) experience with such injuries.

  • Bryan Tan So many sudden veterinary experts on this thread. Thanks to CSI on cable TV, now everyone thinks they can conclusively prove the cause of death from a photo on Facebook. Very nice.

Meanwhile, the carcass has now been passed on to AVA for another independent investigation.
What do you think?
