SINGAPORE: To help them pick up new skills and make some money, seniors will be able to take up internships, part-time and light work offered by companies under the Golden Work series by the People’s Association (PA) Senior Academy, the PA said in a media release on Saturday (Apr 25).
The Golden Work series is an effort by the PA Senior Academy to meet the needs of seniors who are keen to be engaged in freelance or part-time work to pick up relevant job-based skills and earn pocket money.
The average internship period is about a month, depending on the nature of the job and industry practices.
With the support of the Singapore Manufacturing Federation, several companies have partnered PA for the Golden Work series including Dione International, Far East Flora.com, Modern-Pak, Orchid Laundry, Sakae Holdings and Tea Ideas.
Among the 100 vacancies, including internships, are part-time options such as floral arrangement, hamper wrapping and product promoters during the festive seasons. Other part-time jobs offered include working as customer service personnel, receptionists and data-entry support.
PA has also worked with industry partners such as Tea Ideas to offer light work, such as tea packing at the Community Clubs (CCs).
Within the first two months of the launch of the Senior Academy, more than 2,000 senior participants signed up for one or more of the 162 classes offered at the 10 designated CCs, said PA. It added that the first run of the 10 cohort classes for the four-month Certificate in Senior Wellness Programme of the Senior Academy have been fully subscribed to, with more on the waiting list.
Mr Ang Hak Seng, BBM, Chief Executive Director of PA, said: “We are encouraged by the overwhelming response for PA’s first-of-its-kind Senior Academy. I am happy to hear from our senior participants how proud they feel about learning new skills and fulfilling their aspirations through this programme.”
