Kit Siang wants discussion on Dr M's proposal

DAP parliamentary leader Lim Kit Siang is mooting a meeting of political leaders on former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad's proposal that the opposition joins forces with BN MPs in a vote of no-confidence against Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak.

Despite Mahathir's insistence that the BN should remain in power after Najib's (photo) ouster, Lim appeared open in discussing the matter and described it as "interesting".

"Mahathir has come out with the proposal that the opposition supports a no-confidence vote in Parliament against Najib, while still retaining the BN in government.

"It is an interesting proposition that political leaders can meet and discuss to see how far it can advance the cause of 'Save Malaysia'," he said in a statement today.

Grand coalition to 'save' Malaysia

Lim said he had since March this year repeatedly raised the possibility of a post-BN, post-Pakatan Rakyat grand coalition to "save" Malaysia.

"It must go beyond the existing political coalitions and parties, comprising MPs from both sides of the political divide as well as both sides of the South China Sea, Sabah, Sarawak and Peninsular Malaysia, to defend constitutionalism and the rule of law with a new prime minister and a new Malaysian government.

"I had even named names of the MPs from Sarawak, Sabah and Peninsular Malaysia; from both sides of the political divide, both man and woman, who could be appointed the new prime minister – and the names included (Tengku) Razaleigh Hamzah (photo) and Nur Jazlan Mohamed," said Lim, who is also Gelang Patah MP.

However, PAS' deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man described Mahathir's proposal as "half-baked".

"The main issue affecting the country is not only due to Najib but stems from a culture and a corrupt governance system inherited from Mahathir.

"PAS sees Mahathir's proposal as an attempt to use the opposition to change Najib and rescue his beloved Umno which is no longer capable of correcting itself due to money politics," he said in a statement today.
