Liang Xiuzhen says the 'horn' started out as a black mole eight years ago. When it became itchy, she treated it with a herbal remedy. In 2013, her mole gave way to a finger-like horn. But when she went to the hospital, doctors didn't know what it was, so she ignored it. Six months ago, Liang's son washed his mom's hair and accidentally cracked the horn, which broke and fell. Liang's horn grew back and is now 12cm long and 5cm wide. It has become painful and sometimes bleeds. Doctors believe that Liang has a cutaneous horn, a rare growth composed of compacted keratin which can, in some cases, be associated with malignant or premalignant lesions. A cutaneous horn can be surgically removed, but the woman's family is reluctant to have her undergo operation due to her old age, reports Shanghaiist.
